Cacia

Software Developer (f/m/div.).

FULL TIMEENGINEERING

Your contribution to something big

Join the application software development team within the Electric Solutions group at Bosch Home Comfort in Aveiro. You will develop and enhance software for residential heating systems, with a strong focus on C and C++ programming for air-to-water heat pumps.

Working closely with multidisciplinary and international teams, you will translate system requirements into reliable software and contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from design and implementation to integration, testing, and maintenance. Depending on the project, you may also work with Model-Based Development (MBD) using MATLAB and Simulink.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain application software in C and C++ for heat pumps and related heating systems.

  • Implement control strategies and product functions, ensuring reliable interaction between software, hardware, and thermal processes.

  • Contribute to software architecture, modular design, code reviews, and technical documentation.

  • Integrate, test, and debug software, investigating and resolving issues at both software and system level.

  • Develop and maintain MATLAB/Simulink models where model-based approaches are used.

  • Collaborate with systems, electronics, hardware, control, and mechanical engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Implement and troubleshoot communication interfaces using protocols such as CAN, Modbus, and LIN.

  • Contribute to continuous integration, automated testing, and software delivery using Jenkins and the Atlassian toolchain.

  • Clarify requirements, identify technical risks, and propose improvements to software quality, product performance, and development efficiency.

  • Follow development and quality standards, deliver agreed tasks, and share knowledge across an international engineering team.

Education and experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Typically five or more years of relevant professional experience in software development, embedded systems, or application software.

  • Hands-on experience developing production-quality software in C and C++, including testing, debugging, and maintenance.

Core technical skills

  • Strong C and C++ programming skills.

  • Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and modular architecture.

  • Experience with version control, software testing, debugging tools, and collaborative development workflows.

  • Ability to translate technical requirements into robust, maintainable software and diagnose complex problems.

Additional skills that would be an advantage

  • Experience with Model-Based Development, MATLAB, and Simulink.

  • Knowledge of control systems, system modelling, and control algorithm implementation.

  • Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, real-time software, and hardware/software integration.

  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid systems, or energy conversion.

  • Knowledge of heat pumps, HVAC, or domestic hot water systems.

  • Experience with CAN, Modbus, or LIN communication protocols.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, Jira, and Bitbucket.

  • Experience in multidisciplinary teams, agile methodologies, and structured development processes.

Languages

  • Fluency in English.

  • Portuguese language skills are an advantage.

Working style

  • Analytical and structured, with a focus on quality and a strong sense of ownership.

  • Proactive and able to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.

  • Curious and motivated to learn new technologies and engineering concepts.

  • Clear communicator, comfortable collaborating across disciplines and international teams.

  • Confident in questioning assumptions, clarifying requirements, and proposing improvements.

  • Available for occasional business travel.
