Technology & Engineering
dunnhumby’s Technology and Engineering team builds the platforms, pipelines and systems that make customer data science possible at scale. From the data infrastructure that ingests billions of transactions to the APIs and cloud architecture that power our products, we engineer reliable, high-performance software trusted by the world’s leading retailers and brands.
About the Role
As our Configuration & Release Readiness Lead, you’ll ensure that continuously deployed functionality is technically and operationally ready before it is released to clients.
You’ll coordinate the engineering activity required to move capabilities from deployed but inactive to demonstrably ready for controlled exposure. This spans tenant-specific configuration, permissions, feature controls, cross-service dependencies, observability, validation evidence, supportability and technical release controls.
The role is particularly important as our platform moves towards continuous deployment and supports a growing number of client environments. You’ll establish the consistent governance and evidence needed to make informed release decisions while improving release quality, predictability and operational outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll provide a single engineering view of release readiness, bringing together the evidence, dependencies and decisions required for safe and controlled releases.
- Own release-readiness governance, defining criteria, evidence standards and decision points, facilitating reviews and making clear readiness recommendations.
- Assure tenant and configuration readiness, verifying that configuration, permissions, mappings, feature controls and dependencies are accurate, approved, traceable and consistent across services and environments.
- Coordinate technical and operational validation, including integration, default behaviours, failure modes, rollback and disablement mechanisms.
- Confirm support readiness, ensuring monitoring, observability, success measures, runbooks, documentation and recovery procedures are established before exposure.
- Improve release outcomes, using release experience, incidents and learning to strengthen controls, measurement and predictability across Engineering, Product, Platform, Security, Data and Operations.
What We’re Looking For
- You’ll be someone who brings structure, evidence and sound judgement to complex technical decisions. You’ll understand how software moves safely from deployment to release and communicate clearly across teams without needing to own each participating function directly.
- Experience coordinating complex releases within a B2B SaaS, software platform or enterprise product environment.
- Strong understanding of continuous deployment, progressive delivery, feature flags and configuration-driven systems.
- Knowledge of configurable customer environments, including single-tenant or multi-tenant models and dependencies across microservices, data flows, permissions and platform components.
- Structured readiness and risk management, covering evidence, exceptions, dependencies, operational support and informed release decisions.
- Clear technical communication, with the confidence to coordinate Engineering, Product, Platform and Operations stakeholders around blockers, remediation and readiness status.
You’ll Thrive If You…
- Bring systems thinking and close attention to configuration and operational detail.
- Understand practices such as configuration-as-code, GitOps, CI/CD, observability, SRE and service ownership.
- Are familiar with feature-management standards or platforms such as OpenFeature, LaunchDarkly or equivalent.
- Look for opportunities to automate validation and strengthen configuration-assurance controls.
