OUR VISION
When people use our technology to "bridge the gap" between the physical and digital worlds, they don’t just capture reality - they create a new one. In this new reality, they are smarter, more productive, more streamlined, and more creative - because they have the digital foundation to build the world they want to live in.
That’s what NavVis offers in all our products and services: the tools to not just map the world as it is, but to pave the way to a better future. To forge something new. Physical or digital, there is only one reality. And it’s the reality NavVis empowers people to build better.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As our Lead Software Engineer for web-based computer graphics, you will own how NavVis IVION renders reality. You will work with billions of points, 3D Gaussian Splats, meshes, and panoramic imagery, streamed on demand and rendered as interactive 3D scenes in the browser. Your ownership will span the entire rendering layer, from Three.js, WebGL, shaders, and level-of-detail strategies to GPU memory management, data formats, and efficient streaming.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You will join our IVION Data Foundation team, working alongside engineers across data processing, backend services, and frontend development. Together, you will make rendering faster, more scalable, and visually richer, ensuring smooth performance across different hardware environments. Beyond optimizing our existing renderer, you will shape its future architecture, influence data formats, and define performance standards. This role combines real-time computer graphics, large-scale spatial data, and web engineering, with significant ownership and room to set technical direction.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
-
Own and improve browser-based 3D rendering in NavVis IVION, working with Three.js, WebGL, shaders, and rendering pipelines for point clouds, 3D Gaussian splats, meshes, and panoramic imagery
-
Optimize rendering performance and visual quality through advanced occlusion culling, adaptive refinement, level-of-detail strategies, and efficient GPU memory management
-
Deliver reliable rendering across different hardware environments, from high-end workstations to laptops with integrated GPUs and restricted corporate browsers
-
Improve data streaming and rendering efficiency by contributing to spatial indexing, tiling, compression, caching, and progressive loading strategies
-
Collaborate across the technology stack to optimize interfaces between C++ data processing, Java backend services, storage, and frontend rendering
-
Shape the evolution of our rendering architecture, evaluating WebGPU, compute shaders, and modern graphics techniques to improve performance and scalability
WHAT WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED IN THE ROLE
-
Strong experience in real-time 3D graphics for the web, particularly with WebGL2, Three.js, GLSL shaders, and custom rendering pipelines
-
Solid knowledge of 3D mathematics and spatial algorithms, including coordinate systems, transformations, projections, spatial data structures (octrees, BVHs, KD-trees), level-of-detail, and culling techniques
-
Experience rendering and streaming large-scale 3D datasets, such as point clouds, meshes, or 3D Gaussian Splats, including spatial indexing, tiling, caching, and memory management
-
Strong performance optimization skills across GPU, CPU, and networking, using profiling, benchmarking, and systematic analysis to identify and resolve bottlenecks
-
Proficiency in TypeScript, with experience developing and maintaining complex, performance-critical web applications
Nice to Have
-
Hands-on experience with WebGPU, WGSL, or compute shaders
-
Experience with C++, Rust, WebAssembly, or native graphics APIs such as Vulkan, Metal, or DirectX
-
Experience with Angular, Java, or Spring Boot and working across frontend and backend systems
-
Familiarity with reality capture, photogrammetry, SLAM, BIM, geospatial applications, or radiance field techniques, including 3D Gaussian Splats
