Our company is developing cutting-edge embedded systems for advanced R&D products, providing unique opportunities to work on next-generation firmware and hardware integration. The focus of this role is to ensure the quality and reliability of embedded software running on microcontroller-based systems and single-board computers.
As a Senior Embedded Software Test Engineer, you will analyze project requirements, design and maintain test plans, execute functional and integration tests, and document results. You will work closely with software and hardware teams to reproduce and investigate issues, supporting the delivery of high-quality embedded products.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the test methodology and infrastructure for embedded products across FPGA code, embedded software, and hardware.
- Select and maintain suitable test frameworks and tools. Build and maintain test benches, fixtures, and hardware setups.
- Execute test scenarios based on test plans and provide test reports to support internal quality reviews and customer confidence.
- Identify, investigate, and document defects, including reproduction steps and detailed issue reports.
- Establish traceability between requirements, tests, defects, and release criteria.
- Define and execute release validation tests and CI/CD regression tests.
- Improve product testability through better logging, diagnostics, and instrumentation.
Requirements
- Technical education in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded software testing, including at least 5 years of experience with embedded systems.
- Experience testing microcontroller-based systems (e.g., STM32), single-board computers (e.g., Raspberry Pi), and Linux-based systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and automated regression testing, including the ability to build and maintain automated regression environments.
- Solid understanding of test design techniques, test levels, and test types.
- Familiarity with embedded communication protocols such as USB, UART, SPI, and I2C.
- Working knowledge of digital radio communication, Wi-Fi and ODFM-based systems.
- Good understanding of Ethernet and networking.
- Experience with test automation and frameworks such as pytest, Robot Framework, or similar.
- Experience debugging firmware flashing processes and hardware interfaces.
- Ability to reproduce system issues by replicating hardware and software interactions.
- Strong knowledge of test methodology, requirements analysis, and traceability.
- Understanding of verification levels, including unit, integration, system, and hardware-software integration testing.
Would Be a Plus
- 1 or 2 years of experience with FPGA and board testing.
- Experience testing proprietary communication protocols.
- Familiarity with JTAG, SWD, Wireshark, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, antenna analyzers, or spectrum analyzers.
Skills & Abilities Required
- Strong analytical, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, creating structure where testing processes are still evolving.
- Experience with test automation using Python, basic shell scripting, or C++.
- Competence in using measurement equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, antenna analyzers, or spectrum analyzers is a plus.
- Strong hands-on approach and comfort working with hardware, cables, boards, fixtures, laboratory equipment, and custom test setups, including scripts.
