How you’ll make impact

As a Senior GRC Specialist, you’ll act as the regional anchor for Mexico City while integrating closely with Airwallex’s global Information Security team. Reporting to the Senior GRC Manager, you’ll serve as a regional point of contact for government and regulatory bodies in Mexico, helping design and implement policies that balance regional requirements with global standards.

• Manage and monitor security controls, executing to a high standard while continuously refining and iterating.

• Serve as a trusted contact for Mexican regulatory bodies, customers, partners, and vendors, helping shape external understanding of Airwallex’s security posture in the region.

• Use AI and automation to streamline compliance and security work, including reporting and communications.

• Develop and maintain security documentation, including standards, policies, reporting metrics, dashboards, and evidence artefacts for internal and external stakeholders.

• Act as a subject matter expert and generalist for security compliance in the Mexico region, balancing strategic ownership with practical, hands-on security work.

• Drive initiatives independently using project management experience, without being bound to traditional solutions or methodologies.

You’ll work from our Mexico City or San Francisco office three days a week.

What we’re looking for

Essentials

• 5–7 years of cybersecurity experience, with a proven ability to work and execute independently.

• Must hold a Mexican Tax ID (RFC) or have dual Mexican citizenship, as this role directly owns and represents the Mexico City region.

• Fluent in both English and Spanish, written and spoken.

• Deep knowledge of relevant compliance and control frameworks such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and similar standards, with a strong understanding of what makes a successful information security audit.

• Strong familiarity with Information Security concepts, practices, and solutions, whether from a technical background or through close collaboration with engineering teams.

• Working knowledge of policy creation and maintenance, including tuning policies to meet complex regulatory requirements.

• Working understanding of complex cloud environments and how they affect modern security and compliance operations.

• Ability to act as a subject matter expert and generalist for security compliance in the Mexico region.

• Experience managing the implementation and monitoring of security controls.

• Ability to develop and maintain security documentation, including standards, policies, reporting metrics, dashboards, and evidence artefacts.

• Experience driving initiatives independently and balancing strategic ownership with practical, hands-on security work.

Preferred

• Prior experience in the fintech industry.

• Knowledge of security compliance specific to the finance industry or the Mexican or LATAM region.

• Understanding of financial services or payments.

• Experience applying AI and automation to compliance, security operations, reporting, or communications.

• An industry-leading security degree or certification, such as a BS or MS in Cybersecurity, CISSP, CEH, or CISA.

• Experience using project management skills to deliver initiatives without being bound to traditional solutions or methodologies.

InfoSec at Airwallex runs one of the most modern security teams in the world, protecting hundreds of thousands of customers and hundreds of billions of dollars. Our scale, funding, and industry make us a real target, so we skip the standard playbook of off-the-shelf tools and tiered SOC analysts and build almost everything ourselves, often with AI ahead of the rest of the industry. You’ll go back to first principles constantly, because the off-the-shelf answer is rarely right for us, and we can build better than what already exists.
