Mustang Transportation | Idaho Falls, Idaho
A good mechanic can find work in a lot of places. Finding a place where you like the people, your judgment matters, and you’re proud of the work going out the door? That takes a little more looking.
We want Mustang to be that place.
We’re growing, and we’re looking for a skilled Fleet Mechanic who enjoys figuring things out, takes pride in a repair done right, and wants to be part of a team that depends on each other.
Yes, we pay competitively. Experience, skill, and responsibility deserve that. We also know there’s more to a good job than the number on your paycheck. The people you work with—and how you treat each other when things get busy—matter quite a bit.
Ask Us About the Mustang Way
Every company says it has a great culture. We’d rather talk about what that means when a bus needs to leave, a part hasn’t arrived, and three people are asking when it will be ready.
When we meet, ask us about the Mustang Way—what makes us different, what we expect from our team, and what you should expect from us.
Ask the tough questions. Tell us what makes a shop run well and what drives you crazy. We want to know whether we’re a good fit for each other before your toolbox makes the trip.
We’re not claiming we have everything figured out. We’re building something we’re proud of, and we want good people helping shape it.
The Work
You’ll help keep our school buses, motor coaches, and support vehicles safe, reliable, and ready to go. People count on those vehicles every day, and the work you do in the shop makes their day possible.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing buses and support vehicles.
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and performance issues accurately.
- Performing preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, fluid services, brake inspections, tire maintenance, and scheduled servicing.
- Repairing diesel engines, air brake systems, suspension components, HVAC systems, and related equipment.
- Using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts documentation.
- Communicating repair status, parts needs, and realistic completion estimates to operations.
- Catching small problems before they become roadside problems.
- Keeping the shop clean, organized, and safe.
- Participating in an on-call rotation for breakdowns and emergency maintenance.
We value getting vehicles back into service. We also value getting the repair right. A bus that comes back with the same problem hasn’t done anyone a favor—including you.
You’ll Probably Fit In Here If…
You have experience with diesel engines, buses, commercial trucks, or heavy equipment. You can troubleshoot, work independently, and take a repair from diagnosis through completion.
You take pride in the details. You keep good records. You’re willing to learn a system you haven’t worked on before, and you’re comfortable asking for help when you need it.
You can explain what’s wrong and what needs to happen next without making everyone else feel foolish for asking. Drivers and dispatchers have information you need, and you have information they need. We want that relationship to work well.
A sense of humor helps. So does putting tools back where you can find them. Neither will fix an electrical problem, but both can improve the afternoon.
Experience We’d Especially Like
- Previous bus, motor coach, school bus, or commercial fleet experience.
- ASE certifications or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
- A Class B CDL or higher with the qualifications needed to operate our buses.
Pay and Schedule
- Competitive pay based on your experience and skills.
- Full-time, year-round employment.
- Opportunities to grow and take on more responsibility as Mustang expands.
- On-call participation for breakdowns and emergency repairs.
We’ll discuss the schedule and on-call expectations during the hiring process so you know what you’re signing up for.
