We operate across Cumbria, Lancashire and the wider North West, supporting projects ranging from £50k to £80m in value.</p><p>Our workload is diverse and spans education, healthcare, commercial, residential and conservation/heritage sectors. The team includes active members of ICE and IStructE, with reviewers and mentors able to provide hands-on support for professional development and chartership.</p><p>Joining Curtins means more than just being involved in project delivery – it means becoming part of a warm and welcoming team, where your skills can evolve, your career is nurtured and we work together to create a lasting legacy.<br></p><h3><strong>The Role</strong></h3><p>We are seeking a Project or Senior Structural Engineer to join the structural team and take a leading role in the delivery of a wide variety of projects. The successful candidate will act as the day-to-day engineering lead, working with minimal supervision and representing the company at external design and progress meetings.</p><p>The position will be tailored to suit the successful candidate’s experience and offers excellent scope for progression</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li><p>Lead the structural design and delivery of projects from <strong>concept through to construction stage</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Manage day-to-day project coordination and represent the practice at meetings with clients, design teams, contractors and other stakeholders.</p></li><li><p>Provide <strong>line management and technical guidance</strong> to an early-career engineer supporting your projects.</p></li><li><p>Collaborate closely with our in-house technician/BIM team to produce coordinated structural information.</p></li><li><p>Undertake structural analysis and design of <strong>low-rise framed structures</strong> in steel, concrete, timber and masonry.</p></li><li><p>Carry out structural assessments, refurbishment design and alterations to <strong>existing buildings</strong>, including work on heritage and conservation projects.</p></li><li><p>Produce clear and concise <strong>reports, specifications and design calculations</strong> (both hand calculations and software-based).</p></li><li><p>Ensure designs comply with <strong>Eurocodes</strong>, UK building regulations and relevant industry standards.</p></li><li><p>Work effectively within <strong>BIM protocols</strong> and contribute to model-based design workflows.</p></li><li><p>Support project programmes, budgets and quality standards while managing your own workload.</p></li></ul><h2><strong>Skills & Experience</strong></h2><p><strong>Essential</strong></p><ul><li><p>Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent).</p></li><li><p>Strong understanding of building structures design across multiple sectors.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.</p></li><li><p>Confident communicator able to lead client and design team meetings.</p></li><li><p>Proven experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers.</p></li><li><p>Proficiency with hand calculations and structural design software.</p></li><li><p>Good working knowledge of the Eurocodes and UK building regulations.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Desirable</strong></p><ul><li><p>Experience with Tekla Tedds and Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) or comparable analysis/design tools.</p></li><li><p>Experience working in BIM Level 2 or structured BIM environments.</p></li><li><p>Refurbishment, conservation or heritage project experience.</p></li><li><p>Working towards Chartered status (CEng/MIStructE/ MICE or equivalent), or already Chartered.</p></li></ul><p>Above all the right fit will be guided by what is right when making decisions, who recognises the contribution of others and shares their successes.
