Senior Associate - Software Developer
San Francisco, California

We are looking for an exceptional software engineer in San Francisco to support the growth of our investment advisory firm. This is an opportunity to work alongside individuals who are united by a strong sense of teamwork, service, and excellence. Our hallmarks of responsiveness, availability, dependability, and competency are among our highest priorities.

About the role

This software development role sits within the Investment Strategy team, which is responsible for top-down portfolio construction and asset allocation, for macroeconomic and capital markets research, and for portfolio implementation and rebalancing using our proprietary client portfolio management systems and tools. These tools are used to rebalance portfolios, generate portfolio analytics, and monitor portfolios.

This individual will use their depth of experience in software engineering and design to enhance our existing system and to add new functionality and solve challenging future problems. The individual will maintain and upgrade the application code as well as the web UI, striving for a balance between responsiveness and reliability of our applications.

This role is one of ownership of the systems and entails both hands-on technical work as well as planning for large scale expansion / integration to create the next generation system. The role also involves interfacing with third parties and collaboration with internal business groups.

About you

You are excited to work on a small fast-moving team that is continuously building new products and features while supporting daily investment processes that are critical to the firm’s investment platform and investment operations. You are interested in working throughout the stack, and place equal importance on both front-end and back-end development projects. You display an ownership mentality, possessing a combination of an entrepreneurial attitude along with the knowledge and experience needed to design and build highly robust and flexible systems. You take a pragmatic rather than dogmatic approach to your work. You are comfortable taking initiative and being self-directed while also highly capable of collaborating closely with peers and with junior team members. You communicate well with teammates who have technical backgrounds as well as with those on the business side. Your qualifications include:

  • Degree in a related field, such as computer science, computer systems, engineering, etc.
  • 4-6 years of software engineering experience
  • Strong Python programming experience along with experience in SQL and ETL processes
  • Experience supporting critical production systems
  • Experience with AWS, Airflow, git, bash, and Jira a strong plus
  • Willingness to contribute throughout the stack
  • Strong project management and verbal and written communication skills
  • Discreet in handling sensitive and confidential information

Additional desirable qualities and experience:

  • Expertise in Pandas
  • Knowledge of Dash or Flask
  • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Understanding of Postgres database management and administration
  • Experience with trading and investment concepts and processes
  • Familiarity with Addepar and Salesforce
