Job Title: Electrical Foreman
Company: Loenbro, LLC
Business Unit/Department: Loenbro - Southwest
Location: New Mexico
Reports To: Superintendent or General Foreman
Employment Type: Full Time
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
Loenbro Electrical Foremen lead and direct crews of journeyman electricians, apprentices, and helpers in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical power, lighting, instrumentation, control, and communications systems in commercial and industrial facilities. The Foreman owns the daily safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance of the assigned crew and scope. This role plans and sequences the work from drawings, specifications, and Navis models; manages manpower, materials, and tools; tracks installed quantities and labor hours against the estimate; and ensures all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA, local regulations, and Loenbro and client requirements. The Foreman remains a working, hands-on leader as crew size and scope allow.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership:
- Serve as the competent person for the crew; own crew safety performance and model a zero-incident culture.
- Lead daily pre-task planning and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA/JSA), weekly toolbox talks, and pre-shift huddles; verify every crew member understands the hazards and controls before work starts.
- Enforce lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E arc-flash and shock protection, energized work permits, PPE, fall protection, excavation, confined space, and hot work requirements.
- Stop unsafe work, correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately, and report all incidents, near misses, and first aid cases on the same shift per company procedure.
- Crew Supervision and Development:
- Direct, assign, and supervise the daily work of journeyman electricians, apprentices, and helpers, typically crews of 4 to 15 craft personnel.
- Match crew skills to tasks, maintain required journeyman-to-apprentice ratios, and verify licensing and qualifications for assigned work.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring; document apprentice hours and progress and provide input to performance evaluations, discipline, hiring, and retention decisions.
- Hold the crew accountable to attendance, conduct, and work-rule standards; escalate personnel issues to the General Foreman or Superintendent.
- Planning, Scheduling, and Productivity:
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, schematics, panel schedules, and Navis/BIM models to plan installation layout and sequence.
- Develop daily and weekly work plans and contribute to the three-week look-ahead schedule; identify constraints (materials, access, predecessor work, permits) before they delay the crew.
- Forecast manpower, equipment, and tool needs and communicate them to the General Foreman or Superintendent in advance.
- Track installed quantities, percent complete, and labor hours by cost code; compare actual productivity to the estimate and raise variances early with recovery actions.
- Materials, Tools, and Equipment:
- Prepare material take-offs and requisitions from drawings; receive and verify deliveries against purchase orders and packing lists.
- Control and secure material, tools, and equipment on site; minimize waste, rework, and loss.
- Verify equipment inspections and operator qualifications for aerial lifts, forklifts, and other equipment used by the crew.
- Quality and Code Compliance:
- Ensure all installations meet the NEC, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and Loenbro quality standards.
- Perform and document in-process QA/QC inspections, including raceway, wire pull, termination, torque, and grounding checks.
- Coordinate and attend inspections with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), client, and third-party inspectors; drive correction of deficiencies and punch list items to closure.
- Oversee and perform testing such as continuity, insulation resistance (megger), and functional checks; support commissioning and startup activities.
- Coordination, Documentation, and Reporting:
- Coordinate daily with the General Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, Project Engineer, general contractor, client representatives, and other trades.
- Complete accurate daily reports, timesheets with correct cost codes, JHAs, and quality records by end of shift.
- Maintain current red-line and as-built drawings and panel schedules, and turn them over to project management on schedule.
- Identify and immediately report changed conditions, design conflicts, and out-of-scope work; document extra work on signed T&M tickets or field directives before performing it, and raise RFIs through the Project Engineer.
- Technical Work:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical power distribution, switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, VFDs, lighting, control circuits, and instrumentation as crew size and scope require.
- Lead troubleshooting of complex faults in power, control, and instrumentation systems and direct effective repair solutions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a registered electrical apprenticeship program (DOL, state, IBEW/NECA, ABC, or IEC) preferred.
- Licensure: Valid Journeyman Electrician license in the applicable state or jurisdiction required. Master Electrician license or eligibility is a plus.
- Experience:

- Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, single-lines, schematics, specifications, and Navis/BIM models, and to maintain accurate red-line and as-built drawings.
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for power, control, and instrumentation systems, with proficiency using test instruments.
- Expert conduit bending, wire pulling, termination, and panelboard and switchgear installation skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication; able to run a toolbox talk, write a daily report, and communicate professionally with clients, general contractors, inspectors, and other trades.
- Basic computer proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and mobile or tablet-based timekeeping, daily reporting, and safety applications.
- Solid math skills for load calculations, conduit fill, voltage drop, and bend calculations; attention to detail; and an uncompromising commitment to safe work practices.
