Job Description Summary The successful candidate will be a part of GE Vernova’s Wind Global Machine Head Driveline subsystem. The team is responsible for mechanical hardware (main bearing, main shaft, covers, rotor locks, rotor brakes, and couplings) including New Product / Technology Introduction, Validation & Testing, Field Support, and Root Cause Analysis for utility scale wind turbines. This position will primarily support the high speed rotor lock, rotor brake, and flex coupling through the entire life cycle from conceptual design through detailed design and development, testing, qualification, manufacturing, validation, and installed fleet support. The engineer will drive technical excellence and continuous improvement in the design, analysis, cost, and reliability of the components under their responsibility. Job Description The Opportunity Wind turbine reliability is engineered before a single blade turns — in the design of the rotor brakes, locks, and couplings that have to perform for decades in some of the most demanding environments on earth. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at GE Vernova, you will own the full design lifecycle for Machine Head Driveline subsystem components across the wind turbine fleet: from specification and analysis through validation testing, root cause investigation, and standardization across the global product portfolio. This is a role for someone who combines deep mechanical design expertise with the judgement to make consequential decisions independently — and the collaborative instinct to bring manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and field teams along with them. Key Responsibilities Lead component design and development — design build-to-spec rotor brakes & couplings and build-to-print rotor locks for wind turbines; own component specification design, system interaction analysis, and reliability verification through physical testing; drive new product introduction and new technology integration from concept through to validated production release. Own design quality and documentation standards — ensure quality of new and revised drawings, BoMs (Bills of Materials), and specifications in accordance with GE Vernova and industry processes; own and drive lessons learned, design best practices, and standardization into design practices, drawings, and technical specifications. Develop and execute validation plans — design testing and validation programs to prove component function and reliability; resolve field issues through root cause analysis and identify design-based corrective actions that prevent recurrence. Solve cross-functional manufacturing and field issues — work closely with quality, manufacturing engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and field support teams to improve product quality and FTY (First-Time Yield); provide design-based corrective actions for NCR (Non-Conformance Report), SDR (Supplier Deviation Request), and PAC (Product Acceptance Criteria) issues. Identify and execute cost and technology improvements — identify and deliver cost-saving strategies; introduce advanced materials, manufacturing methods, and design tools to advance the strategic position of Driveline subsystem components within the broader wind turbine portfolio. About You You are a senior mechanical engineer with extensive experience in component design, analysis, and validation for rotating or power generation equipment — comfortable operating with a high degree of independence while driving outcomes across global, cross-functional teams. You are also experienced working with suppliers and manufacturing processes to ensure your design is consistently produced with high quality. Required A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. Major experience in mechanical analysis and design in an industrial or product engineering environment. Working knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and manufacturing processes. Proficiency in 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools — specifically Unigraphics / Siemens NX. Proven ability to lead global projects with team members across different geographies and cultural contexts. Clear communication, project management, and interpersonal skills — with the ability to present complex technical findings to diverse audiences. Fluent written and spoken English. Preferred Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience in design and/or application of mechanical components in the powertrain of rotating equipment. Working knowledge of ANSYS or other FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools. Experience in design or product development of mechanical components in wind turbines or other power generation products. Experience with system design including interface definition, system stiffness, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) / DFI (Design for Installation) / DFS (Design for Serviceability) methodologies. Exposure to PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) processes and tools. Track record of collaborating with product managers and suppliers to optimize component costs and shape purchasing strategy. Why GE Vernova GE Vernova employees rise to the challenge of building a world that works.
