Job Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and confident Band 6 Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join the acute therapy team at West Middlesex University Hospital. This role is based primarily on the acute wards, with potential cross-cover to the stroke unit, supporting adults with complex medical needs.
The successful candidate will work autonomously within an acute caseload, delivering high-quality dysphagia assessment, management, and rehabilitation, alongside communication input as required. This opportunity is ideal for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist who is confident working in a fast-paced acute hospital environment and committed to delivering safe, patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with dysphagia and communication difficulties within acute medical wards.

Deliver dysphagia rehabilitation and provide evidence-based recommendations to ensure patient safety and effective care.

Manage an acute caseload independently, prioritising referrals and managing clinical risk appropriately.

Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, and discharge planning.

Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in line with HCPC and trust standards.

Provide education and guidance to patients, families, and ward staff regarding swallowing and communication needs.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:

A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Dysphagia competency with experience working within adult acute hospital settings.

Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound clinical judgement.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
Desirable:

Videofluoroscopy competency.
-
Tracheostomy competency.
