This process minimizes delays, postponement and surgical cancellations increasing patient satisfaction and OR utilization. The pre anesthesia assessment nurse also provides patient education in how to prepare for surgery, what to expect and what they will physically encounter during their surgical stay and how that may affect their care after surgery.
