Job Family Group: Business Support Group, Subsurface Group Job Description: About bp bp operates at the heart of the global energy system, helping countries meet their energy needs and serving millions of customers every day. With world-class assets, technology, trading capability and partnerships, we deliver energy at scale today while investing with discipline in the energy transition. Our internships Make an impact on cutting-edge projects. Help find solutions to complex challenges. Be part of a company that invests in you and your growth. You can do it all as an intern at bp. Our 11-week summer programme gives you the opportunity to build your technical knowledge, develop key skills and learn more about life at bp. You'll be part of one team throughout your internship, supported by a dedicated line manager and buddy. There’ll be opportunities to connect with other interns, take part in training and grow your network across the business. Role and responsibilities For this summer intern role, we are looking for someone to work as a geologist as part of either a multidisciplinary integrated team or within a specialist team supporting an integrated team. Geology is concerned with the application of geological principles and techniques, using large amounts of technical data to characterise the subsurface, describe uncertainty ranges and manage risks. Could you be the next geologist to join our team? During your internship, you will receive continuous feedback and guidance on how to plan and deliver your project, along with advice on what to look for and who to speak to. You will also be encouraged, individually and with your intern peer group, to learn about other teams, disciplines and operations to broaden your understanding of the bp business. Here at bp, the combination of geology and geophysics, as geosciences, delivers a powerful description of the subsurface and its uncertainties, growing our ability to safely deliver hydrocarbons and develop lower-carbon energy sources. Join us as a geologist and you will find our dedication to today and tomorrow stretches beyond the success of our business to the development of our people and their careers. The precise nature of your role and project will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business, but your responsibilities will include: • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions. • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company. • Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence. • Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values, with an emphasis on safety. As part of bp, you will also be able to take part in additional activities outside of your role, such as supporting local community initiatives or our bp Business Resourcing Groups, and you will be given the encouragement and time to participate. We particularly encourage applications from students working towards a Petroleum Geoscience MSc and from PhD candidates conducting research in applied geology disciplines such as sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, biostratigraphy, geochemistry, basin modelling and geomechanics. In addition, demonstrable data science skills would be advantageous for a geoscience candidate applying for a role in bp, such as proficiency in using statistical methods to interrogate large datasets and/or in the application of scripting languages such as Python and development environments such as Jupyter. Requirements To apply for this role, you must be on track for a 2:1 in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences or another closely related geoscience discipline. • You must be in your penultimate year of study. This is likely to be most relevant if you are planning to take a year out before starting full-time work. • If you are completing a PhD, you must have approximately 9-18 months remaining until your expected PhD completion date. You are also expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English.  Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.
