The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a RACE Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for wiring, maintaining, modifying, commissioning, and operating electromechanical RACE robotic, remote-handling, and related equipment.

If you are eager to develop and write procedures for the setup, maintenance, and testing of equipment, and to mentor an apprentice within the workshop, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and install electrical systems on RACE projects, supporting the research and development of new equipment and tasks, while identifying potential issues and communicating effectively with project team members.

  • Undertake wiring, testing, maintenance, and commissioning of circuits and equipment for both RACE and JET remote-handling systems.

  • Carry out prompt fault-finding and repair of remote-handling electrical systems, clearly communicating the nature of faults, required resolutions, and expected repair timeframes. Support out-of-hours remote-handling operations on an “on-call” basis when required.

  • Assist in reverse engineering of existing systems and equipment, providing information to engineers or Drawing Office staff as required.

  • Record maintenance activities using the Operational Documentation System (ODS) following training.

Essential:

  • Recognised electrical engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent) with relevant qualification in engineering or workshop technologies.
  • Qualified to the current BS7671 Wiring Regulations.
  • Ability to understand and work from drawings and schematics
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crimping and soldering techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of assembly of high-density connectors
  • Experienced in fault finding techniques in electrical systems and devices
