Principal Software Developer.

STAFF LEVELENGINEERING
The driving force behind our success has always been the people of AspenTech. What drives us, is our aspiration, our desire and ambition to keep pushing the envelope, overcoming any hurdle, challenging the status quo to continually find a better way. You will experience these qualities of passion, pride and aspiration in many ways — from a rich set of career development programs to support of community service projects to social events that foster fun and relationship building across our global community. The Role We are looking for a Principal Software Developer to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) Engineering organization. You will provide technical leadership for complex, cross-cutting capabilities that support planning, scheduling, optimization, production, and supply chain workflows. Working across Agile teams, you will shape solution design, guide implementation and modernization, manage significant technical risks and dependencies, and raise engineering capability while remaining engaged in hands-on software delivery. Your Impact Provide technical leadership for complex or cross-team capabilities across the MSC product suite, from problem definition through delivery and support. Partner with Product Management, Product Owners, Agile Team Leads, and System Architecture to evaluate feasibility, shape solution options, and define incremental delivery plans. Lead architecture and design decisions within the scope of assigned initiatives, aligning implementation with product strategy and system architecture. Develop and review critical software components, prototypes, interfaces, and technical designs, while supporting maintenance and modernization of existing codebases. Drive engineering excellence in code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance, reliability, scalability, and secure design. Identify and manage cross-team technical dependencies, risks, trade-offs, and nonfunctional requirements in support of PI objectives. Participate in SAFe events and provide technical leadership during PI Planning, backlog refinement, system demos, and Inspect and Adapt. Mentor senior engineers and feature leads, establish reusable patterns, and promote knowledge transfer across product areas to reduce technical silos. What You'll Need What You'll Need: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; an advanced degree is preferred. Typically 8+ years of professional software development experience, including technical leadership for enterprise or industrial products. Expert software development skills in C#/.NET/Java, with strong experience in APIs, data persistence, distributed systems, and modern architecture practices. Proven ability to lead the design and delivery of complex software capabilities across components or teams. Strong understanding of software architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, telemetry, performance, reliability, and secure development practices. Demonstrated ability to translate business priorities, customer workflows, and technical constraints into implementable solutions and measurable outcomes. Experience influencing technical decisions, resolving ambiguity, and aligning stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority. Excellent communication, technical writing, mentoring, and presentation skills in English. Preferred Qualifications/Requirements: Experience developing enterprise, industrial, scientific, or data-intensive software applications is desirable. Familiarity with complex business domains, distributed systems, workflow-driven applications, mathematical modeling, optimization, analytics, or decision-support systems is a plus. Experience with cloud-native systems, REST APIs, microservices, containers or orchestration, telemetry, and modernization of legacy applications. Required experience working in Agile software development environments, with hands-on participation in planning, execution, and delivery activities. Strong understanding of SAFe practices, including PI Planning, backlog refinement, dependency management, risk identification and mitigation, iterative delivery, and cross-team collaboration. Experience developing shared technical patterns and growing engineering capability across multiple teams or product areas. #LI-WJ1 AspenTech is a global software leader helping industries meet the increasing demand for resources from a rapidly growing population in a profitable and sustainable manner.
