MUFG is seeking a Vice President, AI Engineering Team Lead to join their Corporate Technology division in London. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to shape and scale an emerging AI Centre of Excellence within a global financial services organisation renowned for its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and responsible technology adoption. As part of the Digital Delivery pillar, you will lead a talented team of AI Engineers, driving the design and delivery of high-value AI solutions that transform business operations across EMEA, the US, and Asia. MUFG’s supportive leadership culture, focus on knowledge sharing, and dedication to flexible working opportunities make this an exceptional environment for those passionate about advancing AI engineering in a regulated industry. You will enjoy substantial scope to influence strategic direction, operating models, and technology choices while benefiting from generous training opportunities and access to a global network of experts. * Lead the establishment and growth of an AI Centre of Excellence with end-to-end accountability for solution design, delivery, and support. * Work closely with international colleagues and stakeholders to align approaches, share learning, and drive scalable AI adoption across multiple regions. * Enjoy a collaborative workplace that values diversity, encourages knowledge sharing, and provides ongoing professional development through generous training opportunities. What you'll do: As Vice President, AI Engineering Team Lead at MUFG in London, you will play a central role in shaping the future of AI engineering within a global financial services context. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve leading a skilled team through the entire lifecycle of innovative AI solutions—from initial concept through design and deployment to ongoing support. You will work collaboratively with digital transformation specialists and business stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities for scalable AI adoption. By establishing rigorous engineering standards and reusable capabilities tailored for regulated environments, you will ensure every solution meets stringent compliance requirements while delivering measurable business value. Your expertise in evaluating technology options will guide strategic decisions that balance cost efficiency with long-term sustainability. Through proactive engagement with peers across EMEA, the US, and Asia you will foster knowledge sharing that accelerates progress globally. Success in this role requires not only technical acumen but also strong interpersonal skills; you’ll nurture a customer-centric culture within your team while championing new technologies that advance MUFG’s vision for responsible AI. * Guide a team of approximately five AI Engineers in designing, developing, deploying, and supporting production-grade generative AI solutions including RAG architectures and agentic systems. * Collaborate extensively with Digital Transformation teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritise use cases, translate demand into practical roadmaps, and plan capacity for successful delivery. * Establish architectural principles, engineering standards, reusable patterns, and quality controls that underpin robust AI solution development within a regulated environment. * Evaluate technology platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS for suitability based on business value, cost efficiency, risk mitigation, strategic alignment, and long-term supportability. * Manage the full team development lifecycle including backlog management, estimates, milestones tracking, risk assessment, documentation processes, release readiness checks, and comprehensive reporting. * Ensure strict compliance with organisational policies by overseeing change management procedures and privileged production access management within your area of responsibility. * Define technical guardrails and controls tailored to specific use cases to ensure all solutions remain within acceptable risk limits and are fully compliant with regulatory requirements. * Provide high-quality support across all services owned by the team while working with business owners to define success measures and track outcomes using evidence-based improvement strategies. * Promote MUFG’s values-led culture by building a customer-centric team environment that strengthens business relationships and delivers solutions realising tangible business value. * Champion new AI technologies and best practices across the team and wider MUFG business while proactively driving cross-team initiatives through collaboration within AMD. What you bring: Your proven track record as an engineering leader equips you to guide teams through complex challenges while fostering collaboration across diverse functions. You bring hands-on experience delivering advanced generative AI solutions that are both scalable and secure—leveraging platforms like Microsoft Azure or AWS alongside robust SDLC methodologies. Your ability to define technical standards ensures consistency in architecture while your thorough understanding of compliance requirements guarantees safe adoption within regulated environments. Communication is one of your strengths: you can articulate technical concepts clearly to senior stakeholders while translating business needs into actionable roadmaps. Your familiarity with orchestration tools enables efficient development cycles supported by modern practices such as CI/CD pipelines. If you have additional expertise in machine learning or MLOps—and experience supporting multiple business areas—you’ll be well-positioned to contribute even more value. A degree in Computer Science or Data Science underpins your technical foundation; however equivalent practical experience is equally valued. * Proven experience leading engineering teams with line management responsibilities in complex environments where collaboration is key to success. * Demonstrated ability to deliver production-grade generative AI solutions including RAG architectures, vector databases, model evaluation frameworks—ensuring repeatable scalability across business areas. * Deep expertise designing solutions using Microsoft Azure or AWS platforms coupled with strong understanding of Secure by Design (SbD), Architecture Review Board (ARB), Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA), CI/CD pipelines. * Ability to define technical standards and reference patterns while documenting architectural decisions; skilled at assessing alternative technologies/vendors/delivery approaches for optimal outcomes. * Comprehensive knowledge of security protocols, privacy considerations, responsible AI practices/data governance/model risk relevant to global financial services or similarly regulated industries. * Excellent communication skills enabling clear presentation of technical strategy/business cases/recommendations to senior leadership; adept at defining measurable outcomes/assessing return on investment. * Expertise in orchestration/governance/development tools for AI engineering; familiarity with leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools like GitHub Copilot to accelerate design/testing/documentation/deployment/support processes. * Background in machine learning/data science/MLOps or LLMOps is highly desirable; experience providing effective 1st/2nd/3rd line support across multiple business areas enhances your candidacy. * Understanding best practices for designing user interfaces for applications; proficiency configuring/using Jira & Confluence for agile teams is advantageous. * Degree-educated in Computer Science/Data Science or related discipline—or equivalent experience demonstrating deep technical capability.
