Graduate / Trainee Build Engineer.

FULL TIMEINTERNDEVOPS & INFRA

Start your career in tech with Datacom

Are you interested in technology and enjoy figuring out how things work?

We’re looking for someone at the beginning of their career who is keen to build their technical skills and get hands-on experience working with IT equipment and systems.

You don’t need years of IT experience to succeed in this opportunity. We’re looking for someone who is curious, enjoys problem solving and is ready to learn.

As a Graduate / Trainee Build Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced people and develop practical skills supporting, building and troubleshooting technology used by our customers.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll gain hands-on experience across areas such as:

  • Setting up, configuring and preparing laptops, desktops and other devices
  • Helping diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Supporting device repairs and other technical requests
  • Learning to work with technologies such as Windows, Microsoft 365 and device management tools
  • Developing an understanding of PCs, servers and networking
  • Speaking with customers and colleagues to understand technical problems
  • Helping find the right solution or connecting customers with the right technical team
  • Following processes and keeping accurate records of your work
  • Working safely and responsibly as part of the wider team

These areas are based on the original position description, which includes device builds and repairs, diagnosis, troubleshooting, hardware/software, PCs and networking support, plus customer liaison.

What we’re looking for

For us, your attitude and potential are just as important as your experience.

You could be a recent graduate, have completed a relevant course or qualification, or simply be at the beginning of your IT career and looking for an opportunity to develop.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Has a genuine interest in technology
  • Enjoys solving problems and learning how things work
  • Is comfortable learning new systems and technology
  • Communicates clearly and isn't afraid to ask questions
  • Enjoys helping people
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is organised and has good attention to detail
  • Takes ownership of your work
  • Is willing to learn from others and take on feedback
  • Brings a positive and curious approach to work

Technical knowledge

Some exposure to any of the following would be useful, whether that's through study, personal projects, work experience or your own interest in technology:

  • Laptops, desktops or tablets
  • Windows
  • Microsoft 365
  • Device setup or troubleshooting
  • Computer hardware
  • Networking
  • Microsoft Intune

If you've ever built your own PC, helped friends or family troubleshoot their technology, completed an IT project at university or TAFE/polytechnic, or simply enjoy learning about technology, we'd love to hear about it.

What you'll develop

This is an opportunity to build the foundations for a career in technology.

You'll develop practical experience across:

  • IT hardware and software
  • Device builds and configuration
  • Technical troubleshooting
  • Customer service
  • Problem solving
  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Networking and infrastructure fundamentals
