Department (OC) WADS - Wadsworth Center Job Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist I to work within the Division of Genetics, Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health. The Research Scientist I will perform research within the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Basis of Disease focused on mechanisms of protein synthesis in human mitochondria and pathogenic bacteria, with an emphasis on understanding ribosome structure and function. Using biochemical, molecular biology, and cryo-electron microscopy techniques, the Research Scientist I will perform experiments and analyze research findings to investigate how ribosomes produce proteins and how antibiotics inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and one year of research experience. Preferred Qualifications Postgraduate education. Research experience with ribosome biochemistry and structure biology. Experience using techniques of X-ray crystallography or 3D cryo-electron microscopy. Experience with cryo-EM grid preparation, cryo-EM data collection and analysis to extract high-resolution structural information for molecular interpretation.
