Lead Software Engineer.

SENIOR LEVELENGINEERING

Join our team as a Lead Software Engineer!

Yes, you can! That's our attitude towards our work, ambitions, ideas, and relationships. We at Luminor believe that anyone has the potential to achieve big things and encourage everyone to achieve them, professionally and personally.

Whoever you are and whatever your role is, with Luminor, you will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a local banking champion.

As Luminor continues its transformation journey, we are expanding our internal engineering capacity to build stronger in-house expertise and support the delivery of strategic technology initiatives.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of Luminor's integration and platform landscape. Combining hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, you will drive the design and delivery of scalable, resilient, and cloud-native solutions that power critical business services across the bank. Working with Java 21, Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS, and modern engineering practices, you will guide architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and help establish engineering excellence across teams. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing technology strategy, and enabling teams to deliver high-quality solutions at scale.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Lead the technical design and evolution of integration and platform services supporting all business streams across Luminor

  • Define and drive architectural standards, engineering best practices, and technical roadmaps for Java-based solutions

  • Design, implement, and improve messaging, APIs, service-to-service communication, file exchange, and workflow management solutions

  • Lead the adoption and evolution of event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the full software development lifecycle, from solution design to production operations

  • Mentor and support engineers while fostering collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence

  • Review architecture proposals, solution designs, and code to ensure quality, security, performance, and maintainability

  • Partner with architects, product owners, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable technical solutions

  • Drive technical discussions, lead Proof of Concepts and technology evaluations, and support technical decision-making

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, support complex troubleshooting, and drive continuous improvement initiatives

  • Contribute to platform modernization, cloud transformation, and engineering strategy in an Agile international environment

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in software engineering using Java (preferably Java 21) and Spring Boot

  • Proven experience designing and delivering complex distributed and event-driven systems using Apache Kafka or similar technologies

  • Strong architectural mindset with experience building scalable, resilient, and cloud-native solutions

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices

  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, enterprise integration patterns, and API design principles

  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and driving technical decisions across teams

  • Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, including testing, security, observability, performance optimization, and reliability engineering

  • Solid understanding of SQL databases; experience with NoSQL databases is an advantage

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical execution and ownership of initiatives from concept to delivery

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative leadership style and passion for building high-performing teams

  • Fluent English is required in spoken and written communication due to working on Pan-Baltic level

Why You Will Love Working Here:

  • Flexibility. Flexible working hours, Hybrid work, and the possibility to work from anywhere in the EU, Iceland, Switzerland, and the UK (in total 90 days per year)

  • International teams. Teams that go outside Pan-Baltic borders, where people value challenging work together with good humor and having fun

  • Culture. You’ll be joining a team where things move fast, ideas flow freely, and change is part of the everyday. It’s a dynamic environment that keeps you learning, growing, and never bored

  • More vacation. Additional weeks of vacation are available to all employees who have been in the company for 1 year or more

  • Volunteer time off. We care about giving back to society, therefore, you will get additional days off for volunteering purposes

  • Paid leave. We are proud of our employees who are participating in military training. Therefore, Luminor offers 30 fully paid calendar days for military training every year
