Title: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Company: Global Power Components – www.globalpowercomponents.com Location: Milwaukee, WI (onsite 5-days/week) Hire Type: Temp-to-Hire (3+ Months) Overview: Global Power Components is a privately held, financially sound, and rapidly growing manufacturer of UL heavy-gauge steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures, and modular metal enclosures that house fully equipped electrical distribution and control equipment. As GPC continues expanding its manufacturing operations, we are adding a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) at each of our manufacturing facilities. Each CWI will serve as the facility-level owner of our AWS welder certification program and help ensure welding activities meet established quality, engineering, and welding requirements. This is a hands-on shop-floor position for an experienced CWI who understands welding operations and can work directly with welders, Weld Leads, Weld Supervisors, Quality, and production leadership to maintain a consistent standard of weld quality throughout the facility. Responsibilities: Own and administer the AWS welder certification and qualification process for the assigned GPC manufacturing facility. Coordinate and conduct welder qualification testing and certification activities. Maintain accurate records of welder certifications, qualifications, test results, and certification status. Monitor welder qualifications and identify certification or qualification needs within the facility. Work with the Weld Test Coordinator to schedule testing, maintain documentation, and ensure certification activities are completed efficiently. Verify welders are working within applicable welding procedures and qualification requirements. Perform visual weld inspections and evaluate workmanship against applicable drawings, weld specifications, procedures, and quality requirements. Identify weld defects, welding inconsistencies, or deviations from established requirements and communicate findings to production and quality leadership. Work directly with Weld Supervisors and Weld Leads to address weld-quality issues and support corrective actions. Coach welders on welding technique, workmanship, weld quality, and compliance with established welding requirements. Assist production leadership in determining when additional welding training, testing, or qualification is required. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and welding documentation. Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to resolve welding-related quality concerns. Support investigations into weld failures, defects, rework, and recurring welding problems. Help drive consistent welding standards and certification practices across GPC manufacturing operations. Maintain a strong shop-floor presence and serve as the facility's primary resource for welder certification and welding-quality questions. Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the welding department. Qualifications: Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required. Must have held CWI certification for a minimum of one year. Strong knowledge of AWS welding standards, welder qualification requirements, and welding inspection practices. Several years of hands-on welding, fabrication, inspection, or closely related manufacturing experience preferred. Strong knowledge of GMAW (MIG/MAG) welding processes. Experience with heavy-gauge steel welding and fabrication strongly preferred. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and welding procedures. Strong understanding of weld quality, common welding defects, inspection methods, and corrective actions. Ability to make measurements and shop calculations necessary to verify compliance with engineering and quality specifications. Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach welders and work effectively with production leadership, Quality, and Engineering. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining high welding and manufacturing quality standards. Comfortable working primarily on the manufacturing floor in a fast-paced heavy fabrication environment. At Global Power Components, our mission is simple: Inov8OrDie Driven by this mindset, GPC has grown from 200 to more than 2,000 employees in just five years, expanding from one manufacturing facility to four locations across the Milwaukee area, including our new 500,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in West Milwaukee. We design and manufacture the critical infrastructure that surrounds and supports power generation. But what sets GPC apart isn't just what we build — it's how we work. We move fast. We make decisions. We solve problems. We challenge ourselves to continuously improve, raise the bar and deliver quality work on time. We look for ways to remove unnecessary complexity and make work easier for our customers, our partners and each other. And through it all, we protect our people, our workplaces and the reputation we've built. GPC isn't a traditional corporate environment — and we don't want to be. We expect people to take ownership, speak up, make decisions and get things done. As GPC continues to grow, our people have opportunities to take on significant responsibility, solve bigger problems and make a visible impact on the business. If you're energized by growth, comfortable with change, willing to roll up your sleeves and want to help build what's next in power generation, GPC is a place where you can make an impact.
