The Role

We are looking for a Head of Funding and Investor Relations to define, develop and scale Funding Societies Malaysia's funding and investor strategy.

You will own the capital base that powers our SME lending business, working across institutional and wholesale funding sources as well as private wealth distribution channels. This includes building relationships with banks, digital banks, fund managers, development finance institutions, government agencies, HNW investors, financial advisors and private bankers.

Your goal: Build a diversified, scalable and sustainable funding base that supports the growth of our lending business while optimising funding costs, liquidity and capital structures.

This is a high visibility, commercially focused leadership role where capital raising, relationship building, financial structuring and business growth go hand in hand. You will originate and close new funding opportunities, deepen existing partnerships and pioneer new funding and investment structures that enable us to serve more underserved and unserved MSMEs across Malaysia.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the funding strategy: Define and execute the Malaysia funding and investor strategy across institutional, wholesale and private wealth channels, with clear funding raise, committed capital and AUM targets.
  • Build and grow funding partnerships: Originate, pitch and onboard institutional funding partners including digital banks, commercial banks, fund managers, asset managers, development finance institutions and government agencies.
  • Build private wealth channels: Develop and grow relationships with HNW investors, financial advisors and private bankers as a distribution and investment channel.
  • Deepen existing relationships: Serve as the senior relationship owner for key funding partners and investors, increasing commitments, tenors and product participation over time while managing executive level engagement and escalations.
  • Structure and close funding: Lead the structuring and execution of warehouse lines, structured and securitised facilities, wholesale funding and other on balance sheet and off balance sheet funding arrangements.
  • Develop new investment products: Work with Product and private wealth channels to develop investment products and structures tailored to HNW and private wealth investors.
  • Own funding performance: Build and manage a structured funding pipeline and ensure execution against funding raise, AUM and committed capital targets.
  • Manage investor servicing and reporting: Own investor reporting, covenant monitoring, compliance and performance updates across funding facilities and investor mandates.
  • Drive cross functional execution: Partner closely with Credit, Risk, Legal, Finance, Product and Operations to ensure smooth drawdowns, servicing and reporting, while anticipating and resolving issues before they escalate.
  • Optimise the capital base: Partner with Credit, Risk and Product to ensure funding structures align with unit economics, pricing, credit risk and liquidity strategy, while supporting funding diversification, long term liquidity planning and cost of funds optimisation.
  • Represent Funding Societies: Act as a senior representative of Funding Societies Malaysia with banks, investors, rating agencies where relevant, regulators and external counsel.
  • Lead and build the team: Develop a high performing funding and investor relations team, while working effectively across functions and the broader regional organisation.

Requirements

  • 10 to 15 years of experience in capital markets, structured finance, treasury, corporate or commercial banking, investment banking, private credit, institutional investor relations or related fields.
  • Proven track record of defining and executing a funding or investor strategy from origination through closing and ongoing servicing, with clear delivery against financial targets.
  • Demonstrated experience structuring and closing funding facilities, including warehouse lines, structured or securitised facilities and/or wholesale funding.
  • Strong network across Malaysia's banking, digital banking, fund management, development finance, government and private banking ecosystem, with a regional Southeast Asia network being an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of the credit priorities, portfolio mandates and risk appetite of institutional and private wealth funding partners.
  • Experience raising and servicing institutional and/or HNW capital, with the ability to engage confidently with both institutional counterparties and private wealth channels.
  • Strong commercial, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to articulate funding value propositions and understand structure economics including pricing, tenor and covenants.
  • Strong understanding of P&L and cost of funds drivers, with the ability to assess the commercial impact of funding decisions.
  • Experience working cross functionally with Credit, Risk, Legal, Finance, Product and Operations, with the ability to lead complex initiatives from origination through execution.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a team in a high growth or complex environment.
  • Experience in BFSI, particularly lending, private credit and investments, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a rapid growth or startup environment is an advantage.
  • Professional qualifications such as CFA and familiarity with securitisation and structured finance documentation are an advantage.
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is required, with Mandarin or Cantonese being an advantage.
