Job Summary We are seeking a Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist – Japanese ASR with strong Japanese language expertise and hands-on speech recognition experience to develop and deliver high-quality in-vehicle voice interaction solutions. The role focuses on Japanese ASR development, evaluation, tuning, issue analysis, and customer/project support in close collaboration with global R&D and product teams. Responsibilities Develop and improve Japanese ASR models and solutions for automotive use cases. Support ASR modeling, training/fine-tuning, evaluation, tuning, and validation. Perform WER/CER and bad-case analysis, and support optimization and bug fixing. Support Japanese-specific topics such as tokenizer, lexicon, text normalization, names, POIs, and addresses. Support customer requirements, testing, validation, and project delivery. Qualifications Required Native or near-native Japanese; JLPT N1 or equivalent for non-native speakers. Fluent English communication skills. Hands-on experience in ASR modeling/development, evaluation, tuning, or integration. Experience with Python, C/C++, or Java and Linux/Unix. Master’s degree or above in a relevant technical field. Preferred Experience with Conformer/Transformer-based ASR, or Whisper-style models. Experience with Japanese ASR or automotive voice products.
