Assistant Farm Manager.

Position Description

The Assistant Farm Manager is a full-time 40 hour a week position (days to be determined) who will support all aspects of daily farm operation, from seeding and propagation to harvesting, system maintenance, and data collection. This role is hands-on and physically demanding but deeply rewarding, playing a central part in producing fresh, nutritious food locally while contributing to social impact in our community.

Specific Duties

1. Crop Production & Maintenance
2. 1. Execute weekly seeding, transplanting, pruning, and harvesting schedules.
   2. Monitor plant health, applying integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
   3. Lead/perform regular inspections for diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
3. Data Logging & Record-Keeping
4. 1. Maintain detailed records of growth metrics, environmental parameters, yields, and harvest weights.
   2. Log weekly production data, system maintenance, and any deviations from standard operating procedures (SOPs).
5. Scheduling, Planning & Compliance
6. 1. Lead structured weekly workflow (seeding, growth, harvest, cleaning).
   2. Follow SOPs and standard food safety practices.
7. Pest & Disease Management
8. 1. Lead the twice weekly implementation of IPM (integrated pest management) practices: scouting, biological controls, manual removal, and where appropriate, approved treatments.
   2. Maintain sanitation standards in both greenhouse and aquaponics areas to minimize
9. Manual Labor & Physical Tasks
10. 1. Perform physical tasks including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying supplies, cleaning growing areas, and moving equipment.
    2. Lead/Assist in general farm maintenance: cleaning, organizing, sanitizing workspaces, and performing minor repairs.
11. Team Collaboration & Training
12. 1. Work collaboratively with other farm staff, as well as participants from the Jubilee Housing Reentry Program.
    2. Communicate effectively with management regarding operational challenges, resource needs, or production issues.
13. Safety & Quality Assurance
14. 1. Adhere to health, safety, and food-safety protocols at all times.
    2. Participate in regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
    3. Ensure that all harvested produce meets quality standards before distribution.
15. Continuous Improvement
16. 1. Help develop and refine SOPs as the farm evolves.
    2. Stay up-to-date on best practices in CEA (controlled-environment agriculture), via training, reading, or collaboration with management.

Desired Qualifications

•  Preferred Experience:
• • Hands-on experience in gardening, horticulture, or controlled environment agriculture (CEA), including hydroponics or aquaponics.
• Technical Knowledge: (will train if needed)
• • Basic understanding of nutrient management and water quality parameters (pH, EC, etc.).
• Physical Abilities:
• • Comfortable with manual labor and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment (standing, bending, climbing, etc.).
• Soft Skills:
• • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator and team player.

Our farm operates a basement aquaponics system and a rooftop hydroponic greenhouse. We work in close partnership with Jubilee Housing’s Reentry Transitional Housing Program.
