The FirstSteps Team is inspired by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. To that end, our mission is twofold: to provide the best evidence-based, behavior analytic treatment to our children diagnosed with autism and related learning differences, and to offer a positive, collaborative, and dynamic work experience for our team. We are steadfastly committed to ongoing training and mentorship of our employees, always motivated to support the next generation of clinical leaders in our field and at FirstSteps. We're a privately owned, clinician-led ABA organization with 21 years of experience providing compassionate, individualized care in California. We're a team where clinicians build careers, deepen their expertise, and grow together which is reflected in our average BCBA tenure of 7 years.
A Different Kind of Clinical Environment
Stay close to the work. Our Program Directors (BCBAs) typically support 12–14 children and lead clinical teams of 7–12 RBTs, creating space for individualized clinical decisions, meaningful collaboration, and hands-on team development.
Learn from leaders invested in the field. Lead by our Chief Clinical Officer Courtney Tarbox and Director of Research Dr. Jonathan Tarbox, we bring research-informed thinking into clinical practice and provide opportunities to engage with developments in the field.

Clear Expectations. Meaningful Autonomy.
- 115 billable hours per month for full-time BCBAs
- $85K–$95K annual salary, depending on experience
- Up to $6K in clinical performance incentives
- Individualized clinical decision-making and collaboration with families, schools, and providers
