Social Media Strategist
About the role
Quiet Light Communications is a B2B advertising and marketing agency that has spent nearly three decades helping companies in the global food industry tell their stories. Our clients make the ingredients, equipment, and science behind the food on your table, from bakery and dairy to brewing, nutraceuticals, and pet food.
Here’s the honest truth: social media has become a hole in our offering. We used to have two dedicated social media pros, but they were tied to client relationships that have since moved on, and our account directors have been holding the fort ever since. They’ve done admirably. They’d also like their evenings back.
So, we’re looking for a seasoned social media strategist who can own this channel for QLC and our clients. Someone who knows LinkedIn (and Meta as a bonus) inside and out, understands how social fits alongside PR, paid media, web and email, and can walk into a client meeting and make a compelling case for what we should do next.
You don’t need to know the difference between a hydrocolloid and a humectant. We’ll teach you that. What we can’t teach is great social instincts, and that’s what we need you to bring.
What you’ll do
This is a doer-and-orchestrator role. You’ll write the posts yourself, and you’ll also make sure the people around you are pulling in the same direction.
Strategy and planning
- Build and own social media strategies for QLC and a roster of B2B clients, starting with a major global food ingredients account
- Plan editorial calendars that tie into client business goals, product launches, trade show seasons and PR activity
- Recommend when organic social is the right tool, and when paid social, PR, email, or web would do the job better
Content and execution
- Write platform-native posts, with LinkedIn as the primary channel and YouTube as a strong supporting one, with Meta as a bonus
- Partner with our content strategists to turn technical material (white papers, application research, product news) into posts people actually stop scrolling for
- Brief and collaborate with our creative team so graphics, video and other assets are built for each platform, on time and on brand
- Schedule, publish and manage the calendar across accounts so nothing slips through the cracks.
- Support trade show social before, during and after the event, working remotely with on-site teams
- Plan and manage paid social campaigns, primarily on LinkedIn
Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with PR so announcements, earned media and social amplify one another
- Work hand in hand with account service to keep client priorities front and center
- Present strategies, ideas and results directly to clients, and roll up your sleeves with them in working sessions
- Join new business meetings when it makes sense, and help sell social media as a QLC service
Measurement
- Track, analyze, and report on performance, with a focus on engagement and lead generation
- Turn the numbers into clear recommendations clients understand and act on
- Understand how social connects to website analytics, SEO and email, so you can see the whole journey, not just the likes
Who you are
- A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, advertising or business-related field (or equivalent experience)
- At least 5 years of PR/social media experience (agency preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of ever-evolving social media platforms
- Demonstrated creative design capabilities and a proven eye for detail
- Exemplary presentation and relationship building skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Must be highly organized and able to work independently
- Experience with social media scheduling and PR reporting tools, such as Cision, AgoraPulse and LinkTree
- Some travel may be required
Must-haves
- 3+ years in social media strategy and management, ideally with agency experience juggling multiple clients
- Deep, hands-on LinkedIn expertise, organic and paid, plus working knowledge of YouTube
- An understanding of where Meta is going for B2B companies
- A strong writer who can take something technical and make it clear, human, and worth sharing
- Comfortable presenting to clients, defending a recommendation and taking feedback without flinching
- Fluent in analytics, and able to explain what the numbers mean in plain English and translate them into meaningful action
- A solid grasp of how social fits with PR, paid media, websites, SEO, and email, and how it differs from each
- Experience briefing and working with designers and video producers
- Self-directed and organized enough to thrive working remotely
- B2B experience, especially in a technical, scientific, or manufacturing category
- Familiarity with social scheduling and listening tools
- Familiarity with social aggregators (i.e., Agorapulse, Sprout Social, etc.)
Nice-to-haves
- Food, ingredient, health and nutrition, or CPG industry exposure (helpful, not required)
- Experience supporting trade show or event social
- New business pitch experience
- Working knowledge or practical experience using AI to build smarter products and smarter, more efficient workflows
How we’ll measure success
In our business, engagement talks. Within your first year, success looks like:
- Measurable growth in engagement across QLC and client channels
- An increase in qualified leads that can be traced back to social
- Clients who stay, grow, and ask for more because social is delivering
- Social media established as a service QLC can confidently sell, with you helping sell it
