ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Providing academic support and encouraging students to become independent learners; Cultivating and maintaining an ASC environment that is conducive to student learning. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with ASC and Indian River State College faculty and staff to provide tutorial assistance and academic support to students; Linking with faculty who teach core subjects to provide a bridge of support between the faculty member and the ASC; Communicating with faculty who teach core subjects regarding the performance of their students who are assigned to the ASC for academic support; Facilitating student study groups in the ASC or in other designated areas, i.e., classrooms, computer labs; Visiting classes to promote the services available in the ASC that support student success; Utilizing resources to promote/enhance student learning, i.e.texts, software, Indian River State College websites, printed materials, virtual classrooms; Maintaining an awareness of current College and department policies and guidelines; Completing other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
