Digital Integration Engineer (Digital Mockup (DMU) Management)

Position Summary

Digital Integration Engineering team is part of the Global Product Operation (GPO) Organization. The Digital Integration Engineer manage and own the development, integration, governance, and validation of complex digital product models that enable virtual product development across the entire product lifecycle. This role partners closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, and other cross-functional teams, leveraging advanced CAD, PLM, and Model-Based Engineering methodologies to identify, analyze, and resolve design, integration, and manufacturability challenges early in the development process. Through digital product definition and validation, this role reduces program risk, improves product quality, lowers development costs, and accelerates time-to-market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation, management, and validation of enterprise Digital Mockups (DMUs) and Master Assembly structures using Siemens NX, PTC Creo, or equivalent CAD/DMU platforms.
  • Develop and support digital product structures, subsystem architectures, graphical BOMs, configuration variants, and enterprise product definitions throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Manage Relational Layout Models (RLMs) and support the implementation of Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) methodologies to improve design efficiency and standardization.
  • Execute and lead virtual product validation activities, including:
  • Clash and interference analysis
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Serviceability, maintainability, and installation reviews
  • Support Engineering Change Management (ECM) and Configuration Management processes, ensuring digital continuity and alignment across As-Designed, As-Planned, and As-Built product definitions.
  • Drive early identification and resolution of product integration, packaging, manufacturability, and serviceability issues across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Present DMU maturity assessments, integration status, technical risks, mitigation strategies, and recommendations to program leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Support and enable Service, Safety, Training, and other functional organizations in effectively leveraging DMU structures to meet operational, maintenance, readiness, and business goals.
  • Contribute to Digital Twin, Model-Based Engineering, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) initiatives that enhance product development and lifecycle support capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience working with complex mechanical and electromechanical systems, with significant ability in product configuration management, system integration, and Digital Mockup (DMU) environments.
  • Advanced ability with CAD/DMU platforms such as Siemens NX, PTC Creo, and associated PLM systems.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in:
  • Mechanical system design and integration
  • Product development processes
  • Configuration and BOM management
  • Manufacturing operations and readiness
  • Product packaging and accessory integration
  • Assembly, installation, and validation methodologies
  • Serviceability, maintainability, and lifecycle support planning
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience applying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to product development and process improvement initiatives.
  • Expert knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards with a minimum of seven years of practical application.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical discussions, influence stakeholders, and drive resolution of complex engineering issues across multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge in Configuration Management (CMII) and enterprise change management practices.
  • Working knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and methodologies.
  • Experience supporting and enabling Digital Twin, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) technology initiatives.
  • Proven experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs within semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, or other advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Exceptional ability to decompose complex technical challenges into manageable and actionable solutions.
  • Highly effective at influencing across matrixed organizations, fostering stakeholder alignment, and driving execution through collaboration, credibility, and relationship-based leadership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Business Impact

This role plays a critical role in advancing ASM's digital engineering strategy by:

  • Strengthening system integration and product development effectiveness.
  • Validating design, assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance requirements before physical builds.
  • Reducing engineering rework, development costs, prototype dependency, and program risk.
  • Accelerating New Product Introduction (NPI) and reducing time-to-market.
  • Enabling Digital Twin capabilities that support Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Service, and Operations.
  • Enhancing enterprise collaboration through a common digital product definition and integrated digital environment.
  • Improving product quality, reliability, manufacturability, and lifecycle readiness across the product development process.
  • Driving digital transformation initiatives that improve engineering efficiency, business performance, and operational excellence.
