The role provides hands-on support across monitoring, client due diligence, reviews, reporting and training, and ensures continuity of the compliance function in the absence of the MLRO and Compliance Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

Support to the MLRO

  • Assist the MLRO in receiving, logging and assessing internal reports of suspicious activity, and escalate matters promptly to the MLRO for decision.
  • Carry out preliminary reviews and gather supporting information on potential money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud and other financial crime matters, and prepare draft findings for the MLRO.
  • Assist in the preparation of suspicious transaction reports and other submissions to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), for review and filing by the MLRO.
  • Maintain the internal suspicious activity register and the related AML/CFT records for the periods required under Mauritian law, ensuring accuracy, completeness and confidentiality.
  • Act as Deputy MLRO when appointed and approved, covering the MLRO during periods of absence.

Support to the Compliance Officer

  • Assist with compliance monitoring and reviews of the company's controls and operating procedures, documenting findings and tracking the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Help maintain the compliance monitoring program, compliance calendar and regulatory deadlines.
  • Assist in the preparation of compliance reports for senior management and the Board, and of regulatory returns and submissions to the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and other authorities.
  • Support the maintenance and update of compliance policies, procedures and the business risk assessment, including internal controls relevant to SOC 1 requirements.
  • Keep track of regulatory developments, summarise their impact on the business and help implement any required changes.
  • Prepare information and documentation for regulatory inspections, internal and external audits, and bank or counterparty due diligence requests.

General

  • Work with the corporate, transfer agency and fund administration teams on compliance aspects of portfolio clients.
  • Liaise with banks, regulators and other external parties on compliance matters, as directed by the MLRO and Compliance Officer.
  • Perform any other cognate duties.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business administration, or related field; a professional certification in compliance, AML or risk management (e.g. ICA, ACAMS) is an advantage.
  • Fresh graduate to 2 years of experience in Compliance, AML/CFT, or a related field, preferably within a management company, fund administration, or other financial services environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Mauritian AML/CFT framework, including the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the related Regulations and the FSC AML/CFT Handbook.
  • Practical experience of CDD/EDD, client risk assessment and screening tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Well organized, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and to work both independently and as part of a small team.
  • High standards of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
