We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader, driving engineering excellence and influencing architecture and technology strategy across multiple teams. In this role, you will shape high-impact technical decisions and help build scalable, resilient, and sustainable systems that support business growth. You will combine strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving, addressing complex engineering challenges and improving the reliability and performance of production environments. Beyond technical delivery, you will mentor senior engineers, encourage autonomy, and strengthen engineering standards and practices across the organization. You will also promote data-driven decisions, continuous improvement, innovation, and the strategic use of AI in software development. Accountabilities

• Define and lead high-impact architectural decisions, balancing scalability, performance, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

• Act as a technical reference across teams, promoting architectural consistency and alignment with engineering strategy.

• Investigate complex technical problems, identify root causes, and lead structured resolution efforts.

• Drive technical improvements that enhance software quality, system reliability, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

• Participate in critical incident response, contributing to diagnosis, mitigation, resolution, and post-incident improvements.

• Influence technology strategy in collaboration with engineering leadership and connect technical decisions to business goals and OKRs.

• Establish and evolve engineering standards and best practices across architecture, quality, observability, and security.

• Monitor and improve system health through SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, and other relevant engineering metrics.

• Promote a data-driven culture, continuous improvement, innovation, and experimentation.

• Mentor senior engineers, share technical knowledge, and help raise the overall engineering capability of teams.

• Encourage engineering autonomy by providing guidance without creating unnecessary dependencies or centralizing decisions.

• Contribute to technical communities and cross-functional forums, including platform, security, data, and Developer Experience initiatives.

• Review and contribute to RFCs and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), providing technical context and constructive feedback.

• Participate in Staff Engineer forums, contributing architectural proposals, Tech Radar discussions, and broader organizational decisions.

• Help prioritize technical debt based on business impact and align architectural choices with product objectives.

• Promote the strategic use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity while ensuring appropriate human judgment and quality standards.

• Act as a connector across teams and business units, reducing silos and avoiding duplicated effort.

Requirements:

• Strong professional experience in backend software development.

• Extensive experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience with messaging technologies and event-driven architectures.

• Practical knowledge of API design and development, including REST, GraphQL, or RPC.

• Experience operating and evolving high-scale production systems.

• Solid understanding of software testing, quality engineering, and development best practices.

• Knowledge of system observability, monitoring, and reliability practices.

• Understanding of API security principles and practices.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent technologies.

• Familiarity with CI/CD processes and modern software delivery practices.

• Proven ability to influence technical and business decisions across teams.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical mentoring skills.

• Ability to move effectively between strategic architecture discussions and hands-on technical execution.

• Practical experience applying AI to software engineering, including the ability to:

  • Determine which tasks are suitable for AI assistance and which require human judgment.

  • Define objectives and provide appropriate context before using AI tools.

  • Establish contracts and interfaces before generating code with AI.

  • Set clear boundaries on what AI tools should not generate.

  • Scope context deliberately and avoid context poisoning.

  • Critically evaluate AI-generated outputs to ensure quality, correctness, and alignment with requirements.

  Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

  • Experience with NestJS.

  • Knowledge of functional programming languages.

  • Experience with Kafka.

  • Experience with MongoDB.

  • Familiarity with Grafana and other observability tools.
