As Finance Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining financial stability, strengthening internal accounting processes, and ensuring responsible financial management across the organization. You will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, cash flow, accounts payable, budgeting, and financial reporting while supporting leadership with accurate, actionable insights. This remote opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional who combines strong analytical skills with discretion, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset. Your work will directly support the organization's ability to deliver impactful voter registration programs nationwide.

Accountabilities

    • Financial operations and accounting: Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, cash management, revenue and expense tracking, and financial system maintenance. Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and payments are processed on time.

    • Cash flow and financial reporting: Monitor organization-wide cash flow, prepare quarterly reconciliations, support financial statement preparation, and provide clear financial performance analyses to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, funders, and other stakeholders.

    • Budgeting and forecasting: Oversee monthly budget-versus-actual reporting, collaborate with Program teams on financial projections, and contribute to the annual budgeting process to support effective resource allocation.

    • Financial systems management: Maintain and improve internal financial systems and workflows, including tools for accounting, payments, and employee spending, to strengthen accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.

    • Fundraising and donor reporting: Partner with the Donor Engagement team to prepare financial reports for donors, grants, and other funding-related materials, ensuring reliable and timely information.

    • Payroll and compliance: Collaborate with the People & Culture team to verify compensation and deductions, monitor employee time-tracking procedures, coordinate payroll activities, and resolve complex payroll-related issues.

    • Internal controls and expense management: Oversee expense policies to ensure employees have access to necessary business funds while maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable organizational requirements.

    • Risk management and process improvement: Maintain financial procedures and controls, identify operational challenges, and implement practical solutions that support compliance, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.

    • Cross-functional collaboration: Communicate financial information clearly to colleagues and stakeholders with varying levels of financial expertise, manage competing priorities, and provide dependable support across the organization.

    • Requirements

      • Education and experience: Demonstrated experience managing finance operations, accounting activities, and budgets, including direct responsibility for an annual portfolio of projects and budgets totaling at least $1 million.

      • Nonprofit accounting knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP standards for nonprofit organizations and compliance requirements relevant to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities.

      • Accounting and financial management: Experience managing accounts payable, cash flow, revenue and expense tracking, financial reconciliations, budget monitoring, and financial reporting.

      • Financial systems proficiency: Strong spreadsheet skills, particularly with Excel or Google Sheets. Familiarity with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Rippling Spend is helpful but not required.

      • Payroll and expense compliance: Ability to coordinate payroll-related activities, maintain accurate employee compensation records, troubleshoot payment issues, and support compliant expense management.

      • Analytical and organizational skills: Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accurate financial records.

      • Communication and collaboration: Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences and build productive relationships with colleagues, funders, leadership, and other stakeholders.

      • Leadership and adaptability: A growth mindset, willingness to give and receive constructive feedback, and a demonstrated ability to solve problems and adjust to shifting priorities in a dynamic political environment.

      • Cultural competency: Ability to collaborate respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, identities, and communities.

      • Work arrangement and travel: Must be eligible to work lawfully in the United States. The role is fully remote, with approximately 5% travel required for staff events, conferences, and other organizational activities.

      • Benefits

        • Salary: Annual compensation ranging from $88,000 to $102,500.

        • Remote flexibility: Fully remote work, with the ability to reside anywhere in the United States.

        • Flexible paid time off: A flexible PTO policy that supports work-life balance and personal well-being.

        • Healthcare: 100% coverage of employee health benefit premiums.

        • Retirement savings: 401(k) plan with an automatic employer contribution, regardless of employee contribution level.
