Join a mission-driven organization where strong financial management supports meaningful community services and social impact.
As a Financial Accountant, you will maintain accurate general ledger and sub-ledger accounts, oversee complex reconciliations, and prepare reliable financial reports.
You will monitor the financial health of assigned ministry units, analyze budgets and cash flow, and help identify potential risks and improvement opportunities.
Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will provide financial guidance, resolve accounting issues, and ensure compliance with established policies.
You will also contribute to budgeting, forecasting, regulatory reporting, and month-end and year-end accounting activities.
This role is ideal for an analytical and detail-oriented accounting professional who values integrity, collaboration, and high-quality financial reporting.
Based remotely in Canada, you will have the opportunity to apply your accounting expertise in a purpose-driven environment.

Accountabilities:

As a Financial Accountant, you will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of financial information for assigned accounts and ministry units. You will combine technical accounting expertise with client support, financial analysis, and continuous process improvement.

    • Maintain financial records: Ensure the integrity of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts through reconciliations, transaction reviews, and compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.

    • Prepare accounting entries and analyses: Process complex and recurring journal entries, accruals, prepaids, account reconciliations, and other financial adjustments to support accurate reporting.

    • Monitor financial performance: Review financial statements, cash flow, fund balances, and budget results for assigned ministry units, identifying and escalating risks or concerns when necessary.

    • Manage banking activities: Complete daily bank reconciliations and coordinate the timely processing of incoming and outgoing fund transfers.

    • Ensure transaction accuracy: Verify that financial transactions are properly authorized, supported by appropriate documentation, recorded accurately, and assigned to the correct accounting period.

    • Support financial close processes: Coordinate accounting activities and contribute to the timely completion of month-end and year-end procedures.

    • Provide client financial support: Act as the primary financial contact for assigned ministry units and relevant external stakeholders, answering inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and explaining financial statement issues.

    • Strengthen client relationships: Communicate financial information clearly, provide proactive guidance, and ensure that accounting activities align with organizational policies and procedures.

    • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting: Assist with budget preparation and perform variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improved financial management.

    • Manage regulatory reporting: Administer tax rebate claims, charitable filings, and other applicable reporting requirements in accordance with government regulations and legislative obligations.

    • Improve accounting processes: Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, recommend improvements, and maintain clear documentation of procedures within your area of responsibility.

    • Requirements:

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in accounting and financial analysis, strong technical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. You should demonstrate professional integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to accurate reporting and responsive service.

      • Education: University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

      • Professional designation: A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.

      • Relevant experience: At least two years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related environment.

      • Accounting expertise: Demonstrated experience with general accounting, financial analysis, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.

      • Analytical skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information.

      • Advanced Microsoft Excel: Proficiency with functions such as VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, INDIRECT, TRIM, LEFT, RIGHT, MID, SUBSTITUTE, and complex IF formulas.

      • Business applications: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and other relevant business applications for financial reporting and documentation.

      • Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

      • Customer service: A professional, responsive approach to resolving inquiries and building collaborative working relationships.

      • Integrity and confidentiality: A strong commitment to professional ethics, fairness, confidentiality, and sound judgment when handling sensitive financial information.

      • Organization and accountability: The ability to manage multiple accounting responsibilities, coordinate deadlines, and maintain reliable records and documentation.

      • Benefits:

        • Competitive compensation: Target hiring salary range of CAD 50,897.60–63,627.20 per year, with a maximum of CAD 76,356.80, depending on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions, and internal equity.

        • Remote work: Remote work arrangement based in Canada.

        • Purpose-driven work: Contribute to financial operations that support community services and programs for people in need.
