The Regional Director of Specialty Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership across a portfolio of multispecialty veterinary referral hospitals, helping teams deliver exceptional clinical care while achieving strong business results. This role combines regional leadership, financial oversight, operational excellence, and relationship-building within a growing specialty veterinary network. You will partner with Hospital Administrators, Practice Managers, Medical Directors, and veterinary specialists to improve hospital performance, develop leaders, and expand specialty services. Through data-driven decision-making and collaborative problem-solving, you will strengthen workflows, optimize resources, and support sustainable growth. You will also contribute to regional strategy, new service development, facility expansion, and operational improvements. This is a full-time, field-based leadership opportunity best suited to candidates in the Midwest who are comfortable with extensive regional travel and overnight stays.

Accountabilities

    • Lead Specialty Hospital Operations: Provide strategic direction and operational oversight across multiple specialty and multispecialty referral hospitals. Improve workflows, standardize effective practices where appropriate, and strengthen operational efficiency while respecting each hospital’s unique culture and clinical autonomy.

    • Drive Financial Performance: Own regional business results, including revenue growth, EBITDA, labor management, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability. Analyze performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement strategies that support financial sustainability.

    • Grow Specialty Service Lines: Collaborate with veterinary specialists and medical leadership to improve appointment availability, optimize specialist productivity, strengthen departmental performance, and identify opportunities to expand specialty services.

    • Build Veterinary Partnerships: Establish trusted relationships with Medical Directors, veterinary specialists, Hospital Administrators, and other hospital stakeholders. Address operational challenges and enable clinical teams to focus on delivering high-quality patient care.

    • Develop and Empower Hospital Leaders: Coach and mentor Hospital Administrators and Practice Managers, strengthen leadership capabilities, and promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.

    • Strengthen Referral Networks: Partner with hospital leadership and Marketing teams to improve the referring veterinarian experience, build referral relationships, and increase access to specialty veterinary services.

    • Shape Regional Strategy and Growth: Work with senior leadership to develop hospital growth plans, introduce new specialty services, support facility expansions, and advance strategic initiatives across the specialty network.

    • Improve Operational Consistency: Share best practices across hospitals, identify opportunities for process improvement, and help refine the tools, resources, and support structures available to specialty hospital teams.

    • Support Organizational Development: Contribute to a collaborative regional leadership environment, helping hospitals and their teams adapt to growth while preserving medical decision-making authority and individual hospital identities.

    • Requirements

      • Veterinary Operations Experience: At least 7 years of progressively responsible veterinary hospital operations experience, including a minimum of 5 years in specialty or multispecialty hospital operations.

      • Senior or Multisite Leadership: At least 3 years of multisite leadership experience or comparable senior-level leadership within a large, complex multispecialty hospital.

      • Financial and Business Acumen: Demonstrated success improving hospital financial performance, operational efficiency, and specialty service-line growth, with strong experience in profit and loss (P&L) management, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability improvement.

      • People Leadership: Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop Hospital Administrators, Practice Managers, and multidisciplinary hospital teams while building a culture of accountability and collaboration.

      • Specialty Hospital Expertise: Strong understanding of specialty veterinary workflows, specialist productivity, advanced diagnostics, multidisciplinary clinical teams, surgical services, and clinical support staffing models.

      • Relationship Management: Ability to establish trusted partnerships with veterinary specialists, Medical Directors, and hospital leadership, balancing clinical priorities with operational and financial objectives.

      • Strategic and Analytical Skills: Strong strategic planning, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making capabilities, with the ability to translate business insights into practical operational improvements.

      • Communication and Influence: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to align stakeholders, navigate complex operational challenges, and influence decisions across multiple locations.

      • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

      • Preferred Experience: 10 or more years of veterinary specialty hospital leadership experience, with previous roles such as Regional Director, Director of Operations, Hospital Administrator, or senior specialty hospital executive.

      • Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience overseeing multiple specialty departments, referral hospitals, or large multidisciplinary teams; supporting specialty service expansion, hospital growth, and operational integrations; and holding credentials such as CVPM, MBA, or MHA.

      • Regional Preference: Candidates based in the Midwest are preferred for this regional, field-based position.
