Senior Software Engineer, AI/ML.

FULL TIMEREMOTESENIOR LEVELDATA & ML$125K–135K/YR

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, AI/ML based in Canada.

Join a product-focused engineering team developing advanced AI and machine learning capabilities for a healthcare data platform used internationally. In this role, you will help shape the AI strategy and translate emerging technologies into scalable, practical software solutions. You will contribute to intelligent systems that improve how healthcare data is structured, interpreted, and exchanged across care teams and health systems. Working in an Agile environment, you will collaborate closely with engineers and product stakeholders, contribute to technical architecture, and guide implementation from early design through delivery. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and innovation in a mission-driven health technology environment.

Accountabilities

    • Serve as the team's AI/ML subject matter expert, staying informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and applying them to product solutions.

    • Contribute to defining and documenting the AI strategy, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps and broader business objectives.

    • Help establish project scope, technical approaches, milestones, and solution architecture at the beginning of each initiative.

    • Design, develop, prototype, and integrate AI/ML solutions, including writing code and configuring external components.

    • Produce clean, maintainable code, unit tests, and comprehensive technical documentation.

    • Participate in client discussions when required to understand needs and support solution delivery.

    • Monitor priorities, deadlines, and backlogs while coaching and supporting team members in completing project deliverables.

    • Build a strong understanding of the functionality being developed and provide technical guidance throughout implementation.

    • Lead and participate in detailed code reviews, pair programming, and collaborative technical problem-solving.

    • Contribute to recurring Product and Technology discussions, helping shape technical processes, architecture, and engineering strategy.

    • Work collaboratively within an Agile development environment organized around two-week sprints.

    • Requirements:

      • 6+ years of experience in software architecture, full-stack development, or AI engineering.

      • Proven ability to design and document end-to-end software architectures for complex projects.

      • At least 2 years of hands-on experience implementing advanced AI solutions, including semantic matching, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and document parsing for structured content.

      • Experience designing and deploying agentic systems using frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or the OpenAI Agents SDK.

      • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding platforms such as Claude Code and Codex.

      • Knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP), related tooling systems, model ensemble approaches, and fine-tuning techniques.

      • Experience working with knowledge graph databases such as Neo4j.

      • Working knowledge of Apache ecosystem technologies and data workflows, including Databricks, Spark, and Iceberg, or comparable tools.

      • Experience integrating Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) processes into AI workflows.

      • Ability to implement AI model evaluation frameworks, test results, and iteratively refine model performance.

      • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean and modular coding practices and effective use of shared internal libraries.

      • Ability to understand, validate, and take ownership of all code produced, including code generated or co-authored by AI tools.

      • Experience writing comprehensive unit and integration tests, as well as clear technical documentation.

      • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to create documentation that supports developer onboarding and collaboration.

      • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to own development components and meet demanding deadlines.

      • Experience mentoring colleagues and contributing to technical architecture discussions and brainstorming sessions.

      • Benefits:

        • Annual salary range of CAD $125,000–$135,000.

        • Fully remote work environment within Canada.

        • Flexible time-away policy, including paid time off, personal days, and sick days.

        • Competitive health and medical benefits.

        • Employee contribution programs for RRSP, TFSA, or 401(k), as applicable.

        • Life and disability insurance.

        • Employee Assistance Program.

        • Professional development opportunities through FHIR-focused study programs and Skillsoft learning resources.

        • Access to employee community and engagement activities.
