Editorial Assistant - 9 month fixed-term contract.

FULL TIME

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about academic publishing? We're looking for an Editorial Assistant (Books) to join our Editorial team and help bring high-quality academic content to life.

As Editorial Assistant, you'll support authors, editors, and publishers across a portfolio of academic book titles, helping to keep publishing schedules on track and ensuring a smooth, professional experience for everyone involved in the process. You'll be a key point of contact for authors and internal stakeholders, balancing workload across the team and helping to resolve bottlenecks as they arise.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building strong working relationships with authors, editors, and series editors, acting as a first point of contact and ensuring excellent author care throughout the publishing journey
  • Managing manuscript deadlines and keeping publishing programmes on schedule through regular liaison and planning
  • Preparing manuscripts for handover to production and coordinating peer reviews of book proposals
  • Collaborating closely with production, marketing, and the wider editorial team to keep projects moving smoothly
  • Maintaining accurate records across internal systems and databases

Please note that this role is largely administrative in nature and will not involve copy editing or proof reading. Depending on the role you are offered, you may be involved in creating copy for book covers and promotional materials.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with editorial processes, systems, and academic publishing workflows
  • Strong project management and self-organization skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative, can-do attitude and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Confident use of MS Office applications and the willingness to learn other systems where needed
  • A demonstrable interest in working in academic publishing. No experience is necessary, but please tell us in your covering statement why you are interested in working in publishing

Closing date: Wednesday 11th November 2026

Please include a personal statement within your CV explaining why you are interested in this role and in working for Taylor & Francis. The maximum word count is 300 words. Please note that we will not progress applications submitted without a personal statement.
