DevOps and Cloud Jobs in Norway and Sweden: 2026 Skills Guide
2026-09-26 · Petter Larsen
Cloud skills aren't only for DevOps engineers anymore. In Norway and Sweden, around half of all backend, data and DevOps job ads name a specific cloud platform, and many more ask for CI/CD, Kubernetes or Infrastructure as Code.
This guide is for developers and engineers who want to work in Norway or Sweden. It's based on 5,244 tech job ads posted in 2026 and covers which jobs need cloud skills, which skills they ask for, and what to learn if you want to move here.
Which developer and tech jobs in Norway and Sweden need cloud skills?
Share of tech job ads that mention AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, by role:
| Role | Norway | Sweden |
|---|---|---|
| Backend / full-stack developer | 61.1% | 51.3% |
| DevOps / cloud / platform | 55.4% | 59.9% |
| Data / AI / ML | 42.5% | 51.6% |
| Leadership / architecture | 39.3% | 23.9% |
| General software developer | 33.4% | 23.3% |
| Security | 26.3% | 25.4% |
| IT operations / support | 25.7% | 14.3% |
| Frontend / mobile developer | 24.7% | 17.6% |
| Embedded / hardware | 4.9% | 5.6% |

Cloud is core for backend, DevOps and data roles, where 42-61% of ads name a cloud. For architects, security engineers, frontend developers and IT operations it's a plus. Embedded roles, a big part of the Swedish market, rarely mention it (see the most in-demand tech skills in Sweden).
What skills do DevOps jobs in Norway and Sweden ask for?
The most mentioned skills in DevOps, cloud and platform ads (184 in Norway, 237 in Sweden):
| Skill | Norway | Sweden |
|---|---|---|
| CI/CD | 46.7% | 60.8% |
| Kubernetes | 41.8% | 46.0% |
| Azure | 47.3% | 40.1% |
| Infrastructure as Code | 47.3% | 36.7% |
| Terraform | 35.3% | 35.4% |
| Python | 27.7% | 40.9% |
| Linux | 28.3% | 30.4% |
| Git | 25.5% | 35.0% |
| AWS | 22.8% | 31.6% |
| Docker | 16.8% | 35.0% |
| Google Cloud | 15.2% | 18.6% |
| Ansible | 10.3% | 20.7% |
| Go | 9.8% | 16.0% |
| PowerShell | 9.8% | 13.5% |

Terraform is the default IaC tool, in more than a third of DevOps ads in both countries. Norway is Azure-first even here: Azure and Infrastructure as Code tie at the top, and Grafana (15.2%) and Argo CD (9.8%) show up often. Sweden is more tooling-heavy, with Docker, Ansible, Bash (20.3%) and Jenkins (16.5%) all common. Python is the scripting language of choice, ahead of Go and PowerShell in both countries.
On-prem still matters in platform roles: 21.7% of Norwegian and 11.4% of Swedish DevOps ads mention on-prem, private cloud or their own data centre, usually as part of a hybrid setup.
Cloud skills for backend and data jobs
You don't need to be a DevOps engineer to get asked about cloud.
Backend / full-stack developers (185 ads in Norway, 534 in Sweden):
| Skill | Norway | Sweden |
|---|---|---|
| Azure | 45.4% | 31.8% |
| CI/CD | 41.1% | 41.4% |
| Kubernetes | 30.8% | 29.2% |
| AWS | 23.2% | 28.8% |
| Docker | 22.2% | 30.1% |
| Infrastructure as Code | 15.7% | – |
Data / AI / ML roles (308 in Norway, 312 in Sweden):
| Skill | Norway | Sweden |
|---|---|---|
| Azure | 34.1% | 33.3% |
| AWS | 19.2% | 29.8% |
| Google Cloud | 15.9% | 23.4% |
| Databricks | 26.3% | 16.3% |
| CI/CD | 27.6% | 33.7% |
| Terraform | 11.4% | 13.1% |
(– means the skill isn't in that role's top 20 in that country.)
A backend developer in Norway who can deploy to Azure through a CI/CD pipeline and run it on Kubernetes matches a large share of backend ads. Data engineers should add one cloud data platform: Databricks on Azure in Norway, while AWS and Google Cloud are more common in Sweden.
Which cloud should you learn?
The short version (full data in AWS vs Azure vs Google Cloud jobs in Norway and Sweden):
- Norway: Azure first. 57% of Norwegian ads that name a cloud mention only Azure, and the public sector barely mentions AWS. Add Entra ID and some PowerShell for platform or IT operations work. Norwegian startups are the exception and lean towards AWS.
- Sweden: Azure or AWS, ideally both. They're tied in English-language ads, and one in three cloud ads mentions more than one provider.
- Startups in either country: AWS, then Google Cloud. 45.3% of Swedish startup tech ads mention AWS.
A learning path for DevOps jobs in Norway and Sweden
- Linux and networking basics. Linux is in 28-30% of DevOps ads, and hybrid environments still need networking.
- Git and CI/CD. GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps first, and Jenkins if you're targeting Sweden.
- Docker, then Kubernetes. Kubernetes is in 42-46% of DevOps ads and about 30% of backend ads.
- One cloud in depth. Azure for Norway, Azure or AWS for Sweden, AWS or Google Cloud for startups.
- Terraform. More than a third of DevOps ads mention it.
- Python for automation, plus PowerShell for Microsoft-heavy Norwegian employers.
- Observability. Grafana, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
What about certifications? They help less than you'd think. Azure and Microsoft certifications are in 1.8% of Norwegian tech ads, and AWS certifications in only 0.2%, even though AWS itself is in 13.2%. Most mentions say "an advantage". A certification is useful if you're switching into cloud from another field. If you already have hands-on experience, a public project with Terraform, a CI/CD pipeline and a Kubernetes deployment says more. More in niche tech skills and certifications.
Moving to Norway or Sweden with cloud skills
Cloud roles are among the most English-friendly in Sweden: 55.7% of Swedish DevOps and platform ads and 62.5% of data and AI ads are in English with no Swedish requirement. In Norway it's 19.6% and 20.1%.
Startups are the easiest way in. They hire internationally, work in English, many sponsor work permits, and they lean towards AWS and Google Cloud. If you need a visa, a remote contract that turns into a full-time offer is often the smoothest route. We cover both in Do you need Norwegian or Swedish for a tech job?
