UK Atomic Energy Authority

Retford, gb

Digital Site and Communications Officer.

FULL TIME

Our Communications team sits at the heart of the organisation, influencing decision-making and helping shape how we engage with employees, stakeholders, local communities and the wider public.

As our Digital and Site Communications Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in developing and delivering impactful communications activities across both digital and community channels. Working closely with colleagues, delivery partners, local authorities and community stakeholders, you'll help build understanding, trust and support for the STEP programme.

This is a varied role combining digital communications expertise with face-to-face stakeholder engagement, community consultation and event delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

Driving our digital presence

  • Lead and develop UKFE's digital communications channels, including website and social media platforms.
  • Create engaging content and campaigns that raise awareness of the STEP programme and build stakeholder engagement.
  • Review, improve and optimise website content, structure and user experience.
  • Develop strategies to maximise digital reach, audience engagement and brand awareness.
  • Monitor performance metrics and analytics to continuously improve communications effectiveness.
  • Act as the organisation's key point of contact for digital communications advice and best practice.

Supporting community and stakeholder engagement

  • Support the delivery of public consultation activities associated with the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
  • Organise and deliver community information events, stakeholder meetings and engagement activities.
  • Build positive relationships with local communities, local authorities and regional stakeholders.
  • Serve as a trusted first point of contact for local enquiries and community feedback.
  • Help ensure local voices are heard and reflected throughout programme development.

Managing communications and feedback

  • Lead the management of public enquiries, complaints and requests for information.
  • Establish and maintain efficient systems for capturing, recording and reporting stakeholder feedback.
  • Produce communications materials that support consultation and engagement activities.
  • Use data and insight to strengthen future communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.

Representing UKIFS

  • Act as an ambassador for the STEP programme within the local community and wider stakeholder network.
  • Support colleagues and senior leaders by providing communications expertise and guidance.
  • Champion a culture of creativity, collaboration and continuous improvement.

We're seeking an enthusiastic communications professional who combines strong digital expertise with excellent interpersonal skills.

You'll be comfortable working in a complex, fast-paced environment, building relationships across multiple stakeholder groups and delivering high-quality communications with confidence and credibility.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified or equivalent relevant communications experience.
  • Experience working within a communications, public affairs, stakeholder engagement or external affairs environment.
  • Proven experience organising and delivering community, stakeholder or public engagement events.
  • Experience working in large, complex or matrix organisations or programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of content management systems (CMS), social media platforms and digital analytics tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships at all levels.
  • Understanding of UK government structures and the role of national, regional and local government in major programmes.
  • Creative, innovative and proactive approach to communications.
  • Ability to represent the organisation professionally and act as a trusted ambassador.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Requirements

  • CIPR qualification or equivalent professional communications accreditation.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, construction, energy or engineering programmes.
  • Experience supporting Development Consent Order (DCO) consultation activities.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, graphic design tools or video editing software.
  • Experience creating multimedia content for digital platforms.

We welcome applications from under-represented groups, particularly women in STEM and individuals from British black and ethnic minority backgrounds, and individuals with disabilities. Our Executive team, supported by our 'Equality, Diversity and Inclusion' (EDI) Partner and Inclusion Ambassadors, actively promotes EDI and takes steps to increase diversity within our organisation. We reinforce best practices in recruitment and selection and evaluate approaches to remove barriers to success.

UKFE is committed to being accessible. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions or require help or adjustments to compete on a fair basis, for example, changes to the way we interview or share information.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions. Whilst not required at this time, there is a possibility of an SC Clearance being required in the future. If a candidate already holds an SC clearance, that clearance can be transferred to UKFE.

As we work towards our mission and goals, guided by our principles, STEP has six behaviours that are intended to capture the spirit of how we work:

  • We champion safety
  • We all matter
  • We act as one
  • We embrace change
  • We are pioneering
  • We deliver
