Are you commercially driven, confident starting conversations and motivated by creating opportunities from scratch?
We’re looking for a Business Development Representative to join our OrderWise team at Forterro. This is a true new-business role where you’ll focus on identifying and engaging prospective customers, understanding their challenges and creating qualified opportunities for our Sales team.
OrderWise is Forterro’s ERP, warehouse management and stock control solution, built for wholesalers, distributors and retailers. It brings areas such as stock, sales, warehousing, finance and analytics together in one platform, helping customers simplify complex operations and grow more effectively.
You’ll have the tools, knowledge, data and support to set you up for success. In return, we’re looking for someone who brings creativity, resilience and initiative. When the usual approach isn’t delivering, you’ll be comfortable thinking differently, testing new ideas and finding new ways to generate pipeline.
There’s also a genuine opportunity to build your sales career with us. In fact, this vacancy has arisen because a member of the team has progressed into a sales role within Forterro.
- Research and identify prospective customers within our target market, primarily wholesalers, distributors and retailers.
- Proactively generate new business opportunities through outbound prospecting, with the majority of your activity focused on creating new opportunities.
- Engage senior decision-makers and build conversations around their business challenges and potential needs.
- Use a combination of phone, email, digital channels and sales prospecting tools to identify and engage the right people within prospective customers.
- Qualify opportunities using established sales methodologies, focusing on customer pain points, business impact, need and timescales.
- Book qualified meetings and hand opportunities across to the Sales team at the appropriate stage.
- Manage your prospecting activity and pipeline effectively, taking ownership of achieving your individual targets.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing and the wider Business Development team to identify opportunities and continually improve your approach.
- Maintain accurate prospect and activity information within our CRM.
Previous business development, outbound sales or prospecting experience would be advantageous, but we’re equally interested in your approach, commercial mindset and potential.
You’ll be someone who:
You’ll be someone who:
- Enjoys proactively finding and creating new opportunities.
- Is comfortable starting conversations with senior decision-makers and building relationships from the first interaction.
- Has the resilience and determination needed to succeed in outbound sales.
- Takes ownership of their performance rather than waiting to be given the next lead.
- Is curious and wants to understand a prospect’s challenges before jumping to a solution.
- Thinks creatively when something isn’t working and is willing to try different approaches to generate results.
- Is comfortable working towards clear activity, pipeline and performance targets.
- Collaborates well with Sales, Marketing and colleagues while remaining self-motivated and accountable.
- Is keen to learn and build a longer-term career in sales.
Business Development is continuing to evolve within Forterro, giving you the opportunity to make an impact and contribute to how we approach new-business generation.
You won’t be expected to figure everything out on your own. We’ll provide the product knowledge, sales support, technology and data you need to get going. What we value is someone who can make good use of those resources and, when things get difficult, stay resilient, get creative and find another way forward.
You’ll also have:
- Uncapped commission on top of your base salary.
- A genuine route into Sales, with previous members of the team already progressing into sales roles within Forterro.
- Exceptional performance gets recognised. Our Pinnacle Club brings together some of Forterro’s highest achievers for an all-expenses-paid trip to celebrate their impact and success. Alongside this, we recognise our top performers through experiences such as our High Achievers Lunch. And when we say lunch, we don’t necessarily mean somewhere local. The last one was in Barcelona.
- Previous opportunities to take part in overseas team offsites.
- Support from the wider Business Development, Sales and Marketing teams as you develop your approach.
- Opportunities to attend relevant industry events and exhibitions.
Location and Working Pattern
This is a hybrid role based from our OrderWise office in Saxilby, near Lincoln.
You’ll spend more time in the office while you’re getting up to speed and completing your initial onboarding. Once established in the role, you’ll move to a hybrid working pattern.
Because of the location of the office and limited public transport options, you’ll need to be able to drive and commute comfortably to Saxilby.
Customer travel is minimal, although there may occasionally be opportunities to attend industry events and exhibitions.
