This position offers an opportunity for an early-career attorney to gain substantial, hands-on experience across a broad range of legal disciplines, including corporate and business law, commercial transactions, real estate, estate planning, tax, collections, litigation, and government contracting. The Corporate Counsel will serve as HHS's primary legal resource, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, an experienced corporate attorney. The successful candidate will independently manage diverse legal matters while receiving mentorship, guidance, and oversight. We are looking for a self-starter who enjoys solving problems, takes initiative, and can research unfamiliar legal issues and develop practical, business-oriented solutions with minimal direction. Key Responsibilities Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and business agreements. Advise on corporate governance, business transactions, and general corporate legal matters. Assist with real estate transactions, leases, and property-related matters. Support estate planning, trust administration, tax planning and compliance, and related legal matters. Manage collections-related litigation and assist with other litigation and dispute resolution matters, including negotiating with opposing counsel and coordinating with outside counsel when appropriate. Research and advise on government contracting requirements, regulatory compliance, and contractual issues. Assist with mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions. Independently research legal issues, evaluate risks, and develop practical recommendations. Work directly with executive and operational leadership across HHS's businesses. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in Texas or awaiting admission after successfully passing the Texas bar examination. Zero to two years of legal experience; recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply. Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment. Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and take initiative. Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar areas of law. Strong communication skills and a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with a willingness to learn and effectively use AI tools and other software to improve productivity and support daily legal work. What We're Looking For Above all, we are looking for someone who is a self-starter. The ideal candidate is resourceful, intellectually curious, and comfortable taking ownership of assignments. When presented with an unfamiliar legal issue, this individual will independently research the matter, evaluate potential solutions, and present thoughtful recommendations. We value initiative, sound judgment, adaptability, and a willingness to learn more than extensive experience in any particular legal specialty. Mentorship and Professional Development One attractive feature of this opportunity is professional development through direct mentorship and meaningful responsibility. The Corporate Counsel will report directly to HHS's Chief Financial Officer, an experienced corporate attorney who will provide ongoing mentorship and guidance. Unlike traditional junior attorney positions, this role offers substantial independence and responsibility for managing legal matters while providing access to an experienced attorney for advice and oversight. The position also provides direct interaction with senior executive leadership, offering valuable exposure to business strategy, corporate operations, and executive decision-making. Compensation and Benefits HHS offers a competitive compensation package, including: Annual base salary of $110,000–$130,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Annual performance-based bonus opportunity of up to 10%. Competitive benefits package, including medical insurance and a 401(k) retirement plan. Opportunities for professional development and career advancement. Direct mentorship and exposure to senior executive leadership. Broad legal experience across multiple industries. Location and Work Arrangements The preferred location is HHS's office in Dripping Springs, Texas, near Austin. Working in the office provides valuable opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and professional development, particularly for attorneys early in their careers. However, hybrid and remote arrangements will be considered for qualified candidates. Why Join HHS? At HHS, you'll have the opportunity to do more than simply practice law. You'll gain firsthand experience in how businesses operate, participate in meaningful legal and business decisions, and develop the skills and judgment necessary to become a well-rounded corporate attorney. If you're an ambitious attorney who enjoys learning, solving problems, and taking initiative, we encourage you to apply. Recent law school graduates and newly licensed Texas attorneys are welcome.
