NTU Main Campus

Research Fellow (Asymmetric Transition Metal Catalysis).

STAFF LEVELENGINEERING
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school jointly administered by the College of Engineering and the College of Science. The Zhong Group works at the interface of organometallic and organic chemistry to develop new generations of transition metal catalysts for novel organic transformations. The successful candidate will join a research team focused on transition metal catalysis, asymmetric catalysis and organic methodology. The Research Fellow will contribute to the development of innovative stereoselective catalytic transformations using the group's chiral catalyst library. The role involves conducting independent research in asymmetric transition metal catalysis, mentoring junior researchers, and supporting the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations. Key Responsibilities: Conduct research and data analysis in asymmetric transition metal catalysis and organic methodology. Develop innovative stereoselective catalytic transformations using the group's chiral catalyst library. Design and perform synthetic organic chemistry experiments and evaluate catalytic reaction outcomes. Mentor junior researchers and provide guidance on laboratory techniques and research activities. Maintain laboratory safety standards and support day-to-day laboratory operations. Present research progress at group meetings and project reviews. Prepare reports and organize research results for scientific publications. Job Requirements: PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field. Research experience in synthetic organic chemistry and/or asymmetric catalysis gained through PhD and/or postdoctoral training. Expertise in transition metal catalysis, asymmetric catalysis and organic methodology. Strong analytical skills with experience in NMR, mass spectrometry, chiral GC/HPLC, polarimetry, IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Experience in handling air-sensitive compounds using Schlenk techniques and/or glovebox operations. Strong problem-solving, communication and scientific writing skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Hiring Institution: NTU A research-intensive public university, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Engineering, Business, Science, Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and Graduate colleges. It also has a medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, established jointly with Imperial College London. NTU is also home to world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N). Ranked amongst the world’s top universities by QS, NTU has also been named the world’s top young university for the past seven years. The University’s main campus is frequently listed among the Top 15 most beautiful university campuses in the world and has 57 Green Mark-certified (equivalent to LEED-certified) buildings, of which 95% are certified Green Mark Platinum. Apart from its main campus, NTU also has a campus in Novena, Singapore’s healthcare district. Under the NTU Smart Campus vision, the University harnesses the power of digital technology and tech-enabled solutions to support better learning and living experiences, the discovery of new knowledge, and the sustainability of resources.
