Giga Energy

Houston

Manufacturing Engineer, MV.

FULL TIMEREMOTEENGINEERING

What you’ll do

Giga is seeking an experienced, well-rounded Manufacturing Engineer to develop safe, repeatable, and efficient manufacturing processes and scale production of medium-voltage switchgear and critical power distribution equipment. Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to improve manufacturability, production readiness, quality, and throughput.

Where you’ll work

This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.

Responsibilities

Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA)

  • Review drawings, schematics, BOMs, and assembly documents for manufacturability; partner with design engineers to simplify builds and standardize components while maintaining ratings and safety requirements.

  • Standardize components used across multiple products, document technical specifications and validate it across multiple facilities and products.

  • Support prototypes, first-article builds, engineering changes, and controlled release of manufacturing documentation.

Equipment Manufacturing & Technical Support

  • Support manufacturing of medium- and low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, modular electrical systems, and power distribution skids.

  • Provide hands-on production support for enclosures, busbars, wiring, grounding, component integration, and fit and tolerance issues; improve fixtures, tools, and assembly methods.

New Product Introduction & Production Readiness

  • Prepare products for production by coordinating tooling, staffing, workflows, work instructions, pilot builds, and first-article validation; identify risks and scale prototypes into repeatable processes.

  • Maintain standardized manufacturing procedures, ERP/MRP data, labor routings, and document revision control.

Manufacturing Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop standardized work instructions, assembly sequences, production routings, and layouts; improve throughput, labor efficiency, material flow, and production quality using Lean and continuous improvement methods.

  • Standardize components and processes across manufacturing sites, establish labor standards, and reduce cost, waste, rework, and bottlenecks.

Quality, Compliance & Safety

  • Support in-process inspections, torque and grounding checks, and factory acceptance testing; investigate nonconformances and coordinate corrective actions with Quality and Engineering.

  • Ensure manufacturing processes support applicable product standards and safe handling, lifting, ergonomic, and production practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or related discipline;

  • 3–7 years in manufacturing engineering, preferably electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, electromechanical products, or industrial equipment.

  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication, electromechanical assembly, tolerances, fixtures, process development, and production troubleshooting.

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, and manufacturing documents.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or related CAD tools; working knowledge of GD&T, Lean processes, and ERP/MRP systems.

  • Effective communication, cross-functional problem-solving, and hands-on collaboration on the production floor.

Bonus points

  • Direct experience with 5–38 kV class switchgear or critical power equipment for data centers (PDU, RPP, STS, and switchboards).

  • Knowledge of busbar systems, protective relays, breakers, instrument transformers, wiring, mechanical integration, and product compliance.

  • Experience with CNC fabrication, laser cutting, punching, press brakes, welding, finishing, or modular high-volume electrical assembly.

  • Experience with DFMA, NPI, FAT, production-line expansion, Lean Six Sigma, and standard labor/routing development.
