Position Details: Located at Mercy Surgery Center Springfield, Missouri Full Time Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Must have good telephone and communication skills. Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments, procedures and office procedures for ophthalmology and optometry. Must be able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Equipment Used: Must be able to operate equipment to perform: VFA, A Scans, PAM, BAT, color vision testing, pupil evaluation, Amsler grid, automated keratometry, and corneal topography. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Education: Knowledge of ophthalmology office procedures preferred. General medical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, systemic and ocular diseases preferred. Experience with administration of eye drops, ointments and irrigating solutions, and pharmacology of drugs used in dilation preferred. Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes.
