Job Summary

Big Game Steel is seeking a detail-oriented and solutions-driven Product & Project Engineer to support new product development, industrial mezzanine projects, and technical sales applications. This role combines hands-on product design with project coordination, working closely with customers, sales teams, manufacturing partners, and external engineers to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical engineering background, experience with CAD software, and an understanding of industrial fabrication and material-handling equipment. This position offers the opportunity to influence product innovation, improve existing designs, and support projects from initial concept through manufacturing and installation.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Design and develop industrial storage and material-handling products to expand Big Game Steel's product offerings.
  • Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Improve existing products through design enhancements, standardization, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and cost-effective to produce.
  • Support prototyping, product testing, and design revisions before launch.

Mezzanine Engineering & Project Coordination

  • Serve as the primary technical contact for industrial mezzanine projects, from initial planning through manufacturing and installation coordination.
  • Partner with customers and sales teams to gather project specifications, including site dimensions, equipment layouts, load requirements, and operational needs.
  • Develop preliminary layouts, drawings, and technical documentation to support quoting, feasibility reviews, and project approvals.
  • Coordinate with external licensed structural engineers to obtain structural calculations, stamped drawings, and required approvals.
  • Review technical documentation, resolve design questions, and coordinate revisions with customers, vendors, and manufacturing partners.
  • Track project milestones and ensure engineering requirements are communicated throughout execution.

Technical Sales & Application Support

  • Partner with sales teams to evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate product configurations or custom solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on product specifications, load capacities, equipment layouts, and integration requirements.
  • Develop preliminary concepts and technical documentation to support accurate customer quotes.
  • Identify customer challenges and market opportunities that may lead to new product development.

Manufacturing & Vendor Collaboration

  • Work with third-party manufacturers to review designs, confirm manufacturability, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Evaluate materials, fabrication processes, and design alternatives to improve quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Maintain accurate engineering drawings, product specifications, bills of materials, and revision records.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, vendor, and installation partners to address technical questions and support successful project completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Experience creating technical drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, fabrication processes, and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with customers, sales teams, vendors, and manufacturing partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard business software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial storage systems, material-handling equipment, mezzanines, or structural steel products.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication, welding, sheet metal, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience coordinating projects involving external engineering firms, manufacturers, or installation contractors.
  • Knowledge of structural design concepts, load requirements, and industrial equipment layouts.
  • Experience supporting technical sales, product development, or custom-engineered solutions.
  • Familiarity with product costing, design optimization, and manufacturing cost reduction initiatives.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or computer-based environment, with occasional visits to manufacturing facilities, customer sites, or installation locations.
  • May require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and navigating industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Must be able to use computers and engineering software for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project meetings, site evaluations, or coordination with manufacturing partners.
  • Must follow applicable Company and site-specific safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment.

The Company will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with applicable law.
