IQM Quantum Computers

München, DE

Advanced Full Stack Software Engineer.

ENGINEERING

At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.

Join the team that gives quantum a heartbeat.

The work

As an Advanced Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll join our Vertical Deployment team within Algorithms and Applications, developing a platform that brings quantum computing closer to real-world applications.

You'll contribute to building user-facing features for configuring, executing, and monitoring computational workflows, with a focus on frontend development and additional contributions to backend services, APIs, and integrations. You'll take ownership of features from development to deployment, working independently and collaborating with the team to deliver practical solutions.

What you’ll actually do
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain frontend features using Vue.js and TypeScript, with a focus on creating intuitive, responsive, and user-friendly interfaces.

  • Take an active role in shaping the platform's user experience, bringing creativity and design thinking into how complex workflows and technical information are presented.

  • Translate user needs and technical requirements into practical frontend solutions, considering usability, functionality, and maintainability.

  • Take ownership of feature areas or related task groups, from understanding requirements and proposing solutions to implementation, testing, and deployment.

  • Contribute to backend development using Node.js and TypeScript, including building and integrating REST APIs and supporting services.

  • Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, and asynchronous workflow systems, addressing challenges such as long-running jobs, task dependencies, retries, and failure handling.

  • Debug and resolve issues across different layers of the platform, including frontend, backend, and workflow execution.

  • Collaborate with researchers, software engineers, and other stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to coding standards, development practices, and CI/CD processes.

  • Identify technical risks, proactively suggest improvements, and make sound implementation decisions while knowing when to seek input.

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of professional full-stack experience, focused on the frontend

  • Computer Science degree (or related quantitative field) or equivalent industry experience

  • Strong frontend skills (Vue.js, JavaScript), with attention to UX and user flow; some experience working with UI/UX designers

  • Solid backend experience: Node.js (TypeScript), REST APIs, relational databases, and job-queue-backed data stores — ideally PostgreSQL and Redis

  • Understanding of async processing and workflow systems: long-running jobs, state management, task dependencies, retries, idempotency

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, and logging/monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry

  • Ability to work independently — breaks down ambiguous requirements and owns deliverables with minimal supervision

  • Strong communication: explains technical decisions, flags blockers, gives constructive review feedback

Nice to have

  • Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks, particularly Argo Workflows

  • Background in computational, scientific, or other technically complex software platforms

  • Familiarity with quantum computing — or interest in learning

Why IQM?
  • Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.

  • High-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too—hybrid setups, flexible hours.

  • Never the smartest: You won’t always be the smartest person in the room. Neither will we. Expect to learn constantly - from each other and beyond with IQM’s Learning Hub, LinkedIn Learning, and a team-based L&D budget.

  • Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look!

  • The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We’re in the phase where top performers get noticed.

  • Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined.

The future of computing won’t build itself. You might be one of the few who do.

  • Meet our people and learn more about IQM on our stories page.

  • Explore our scientific publications.

We'll start interviews and move forward with hiring as soon as we meet strong candidates. Please submit your application soon.
