Out of Hours Deputy Shift Lead

Employment type: Full time, 50 hours a week. Wednesday to Sunday, working UK hours, including evenings and every weekend.
About the role
A24 Group is a healthcare staffing business supplying nurses and care assistants to UK clients through several brands. Our Out of Hours team is the emergency services side of the business. It covers every brand in the group and fills urgent shifts on evenings, nights and weekends, when the main floor is closed.
As Deputy Shift Lead you run the team from Wednesday to Sunday, and you do the work yourself. About two thirds of your shift is on the desk, calling clients and candidates, booking shifts and filling the hard ones. The rest is leading: running the shift, coaching consultants and keeping the standard the same at the weekend as on a weekday.
What you will do
- Run the shift routine: read the handover, post attendance, allocate platforms and priority shifts, hold the briefing and write the handover at the end.
- Make at least 60 minutes of outbound calls every shift to clients and candidates, and book shifts across our brands on StaffShift, our own system.
- Fill difficult shifts on vendor platforms and client portals, and help build the pool of approved candidates on each platform.
- Review each consultant's work every week, coach them to improve and keep the team motivated through busy shifts.
- Record a reason for every unfilled shift and raise compliance problems straight away.
- Use AI tools to write and test short guides so the whole team can use every system with confidence.
What we are looking for
- Quick thinking, and the ability to keep several requests moving at once, calmly, in a fast pace environment.
- Confident with computers and quick to learn new systems. We train you on StaffShift, our own booking system.
- Comfortable using AI tools in your daily work, or keen to use them every shift.
- A natural coach and motivator who gets the best from a team, and a problem solver who finds a way through.
- Clear writing and accurate records.
- Available for evenings and every weekend.
- You do not need a background in healthcare or recruitment. We train you.
Helpful but not essential
- Experience in a contact centre, customer service, hospitality, retail, dispatch or any other fast environment with many requests at once.
- Experience leading, training or coaching a team.
