Assistant Programme Manager - Sacred Heart Cathedral.

PART TIME

We're looking for an enthusiastic and capable Assistant Programme Manager to join our team at Sacred Heart Cathedral School, a vibrant inner-city Catholic school with a proud tradition of high academic standards and a strong sense of community.

This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and can balance learning support with fun, engaging activities. You'll play an important part in helping children settle into the after-school environment, supporting homework completion and creating an atmosphere where children feel safe, included, and excited to participate.

You'll be working a minimum of 10 hours per week, rostered Monday to Friday.

Shift Times:

  • After School Care: 2:10pm - 5:30pm (availability from 2:10pm is essential)
  • Additional hours may be available during our School Holiday Programmes operating between 7:30am and 6:00pm.

Here’s what you’ll be up to

  • Support the Programme Manager in the day-to-day running of the sKids programme, helping ensure smooth, safe, and well-organised operations.
  • Act as the programme's Second-in-Charge (2IC), confidently leading sessions when the Programme Manager is away.
  • Build positive relationships with Sacred Heart Cathedral School staff and support the school's commitment to high academic achievement.
  • Assist children with homework and learning activities, helping create a positive and encouraging environment for academic success.
  • Supervise and engage groups of children, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable programme for all participants.
  • Plan and deliver a range of structured activities including arts and crafts, sports, games, challenges, and special events.
  • Support children to develop confidence, resilience, and positive social skills through meaningful participation and play.
  • Use positive behaviour guidance strategies to manage challenging situations and maintain a respectful programme culture.
  • Support and mentor Programme Assistants on shift, helping activities run smoothly and expectations are consistently met.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, caregivers, and school staff through friendly and professional communication.
  • Assist with programme set-up, resource preparation, and pack-down to ensure sessions run seamlessly.

Perks & Benefits

  • Up to 50% staff fitness discounts via Wherefit!
  • 50% discount on selected sKids programmes for your own children.
  • Referral bonus of up to $250 for successful team member referrals.
  • No weekend work, giving you a great work-life balance.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for wellbeing support.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • A fun, supportive team culture where your contribution is valued and celebrated.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand (valid visa or citizenship).
  • Have reliable transport to travel to our Sacred Heart Cathedral School programme.
  • Have experience working with groups of children, such as OSCAR programmes, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, youth work, or similar.
  • Feel confident stepping into a leadership role when required and can use initiative to make decisions.
  • Have experience supporting children's learning, homework, or educational activities.
  • Are skilled at managing behaviour in group settings and can remain calm, consistent, and supportive.
  • Are a positive team player who can both support and lead others when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, and school staff.
  • Are passionate about creating engaging experiences where children can learn, grow, and have fun.
  • Are over 20 years of age (as required by the Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004).
