Education First Credit Union

Columbus

Member Service Representative I (Teller).

FULL TIMEFINANCE & LEGAL

People helping people. It's more than a philosophy. It's what we do.

At Education First Credit Union (EFCU), we believe financial well-being creates opportunities, strengthens families, and builds stronger communities. That's why our mission is to enhance our members' financial position through education, quality service, and value-minded products.

We're a not-for-profit financial institution founded in 1936 by a small group of Columbus City School teachers who believed in the power of people helping people. Nearly 90 years later, that philosophy continues to guide how we serve our members, support our communities, and work together.

We're proud of our roots in education and our commitment to the people and communities we serve. We're also proud to be a workplace where relationships matter, teammates support one another, and every person has an opportunity to make a difference.

We're looking for someone who believes in people helping people, enjoys making connections, and wants their work to mean something beyond the transaction. Could that be you?

The role: Making a difference, one member at a time

Location: Columbus – Mound Street Branch
Pay Range: Starting at $18.00/hour

As a Member Service Representative I (MSR I), you'll often be one of the first people our members interact with when they visit, call, or use our drive-through. That makes your role an important part of the member experience.

You'll do more than process transactions. You'll listen, answer questions, recognize opportunities to help, and make members feel welcomed, valued, and supported. Whether you're helping someone with a routine deposit or connecting them with a solution that better meets their financial needs, your interactions help bring our mission to life.

We believe great service starts with genuine care for people, attention to detail, and a willingness to go the extra mile.

Our recruiting process:

  • Position has been posted internally and externally.
  • 20-minute conversation with HR
  • 60-minute in person conversation with panel interview
  • Job offer

This is an in-office position. Candidates must live in the Columbus area and have reliable transportation to the branch.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome members and create a positive, professional experience with every interaction.
  • Process financial transactions accurately, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and credit card payments.
  • Balance your cash drawer daily, including cash, coin, and checks.
  • Process special transactions such as term deposits, retirement account contributions, night deposits, and mail deposits.
  • Assist members with ordering debit cards and checks.
  • Listen to member questions and research account history to help resolve discrepancies or concerns.
  • Recognize opportunities to connect members with additional products, services, or team members who can help meet their financial needs.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully in person, over the phone, and through other communication channels.
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to support branch goals and provide a consistent member experience.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

What makes someone successful at EFCU?

We know skills can be developed, but a genuine interest in helping people makes a difference.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with people and building positive relationships.
  • Puts members first and looks for ways to make their experience better.
  • Listens to understand before jumping to a solution.
  • Takes ownership and follows through on commitments.
  • Works well with others and understands that great service is a team effort.
  • Approaches challenges with patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Is dependable, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Values accuracy, confidentiality, and doing what's right.
  • Is open to learning and growing, both personally and professionally.

Most importantly, you believe in the idea of people helping people and want to be part of an organization that puts that philosophy into action.

This position does offer growth opportunities and a structure career path from MSR I, MSR II, to MSR III.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Previous cash handling experience required.
  • Financial institution or banking experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial products, services, and regulations is helpful.

Technical Skills:

  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable using computers and multiple programs at the same time
  • Ability to work toward individual and team goals
  • Professional and calm approach when working with upset or frustrated individuals
