Mechanical Engineer (f/m/d).

FULL TIMEENGINEERING

Intro

For our location in Freiburg im Breisgau, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer (f/m/d) to strengthen our Design Engineering team.
At NexWafe, we are redefining how silicon wafers are manufactured. Our innovative epitaxial wafer technology reduces process steps, energy consumption, and CO₂ emissions, setting a new benchmark for sustainable photovoltaic production.

As a Mechanical Engineer (f/m/d), you will be at the interface between simulation, design, and manufacturing. Your mission will be to convert simulation results into robust and manufacturable designs, creating functional showerhead systems for our next-generation production tools.
Through close collaboration with process engineers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, you will contribute directly to the advancement of NexWafe's groundbreaking wafer manufacturing technology.

Join our international team and help drive the transition toward a more sustainable energy future.

Your Mission

  • Initiate and evaluate solutions to optimize equipment and machinery.
  • Create specifications from user requirements from stakeholders and translate them into functional designs.
  • Evaluate concepts and perform engineering calculations for new equipment and installations.
  • Convert simulation results into manufacturable designs, contributing to the development of functional showerhead systems.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of concepts for digital manufacturing documentation.
  • Proactively manage, support, and coordinate suppliers together with Supply Chain.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and manage technical specifications for parts and assemblies used in procurement activities.
  • Participate in technical discussions with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Your profile

Must-Haves:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable engineering discipline (Bachelor's or Master's degree; Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time industrial experience in mechanical design and engineering after graduation, within semiconductor equipment, photovoltaic manufacturing, vacuum technology, process equipment, plant engineering, or metalworking industries.

Please note that internships, working student positions, academic research activities, and thesis projects are not considered equivalent to the required professional experience.

  • Practical knowledge of gas distribution systems, including interconnections, component design, and nozzles/diffusers.
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and welding technologies and welded assemblies used in equipment manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar design tools.
  • Fluent English skills (B2 level or above).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, or supplier coordination is considered an advantage.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications.
