FULL TIMEREMOTE$80K–100K/YR

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Manager, ESG Assurance based in the United States.

The Technical Manager, ESG Assurance will oversee the technical integrity and successful delivery of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory verification and ESG assurance programs across a diverse range of industries. This role combines senior-level audit expertise, program management, quality oversight, and strategic client engagement in both voluntary and regulatory reporting environments. You will guide complex assurance projects, ensure consistent application of recognized standards, and support organizations in strengthening the accuracy and credibility of their sustainability disclosures. Working closely with technical, operational, quality, and business development teams, you will also help expand services, improve methodologies, and respond to emerging regulatory requirements. The position offers an opportunity to shape program performance, develop technical talent, and contribute to the continued evolution of sustainability assurance. This is a remote, home-office-based role with domestic and international travel for audit activities.

Accountabilities:

    • Oversee a portfolio of complex GHG inventory verification and ESG assurance audits, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance, quality, and timely delivery.

    • Serve as lead auditor for selected high-risk, high-visibility, or strategically important engagements.

    • Review and approve audit plans, technical reports, verification statements, and the closure of audit findings.

    • Conduct or support site visits, including interviews with project personnel, site assessments, and evaluations of measurement practices.

    • Provide technical guidance and escalation support to Lead Technical Specialists, audit teams, and contract auditors; review technical work produced by others.

    • Support business development through technical input into client acquisition, proposals, service positioning, and market expansion initiatives.

    • Contribute to the development of new assurance schemes, services, methodologies, and strategic opportunities in response to evolving sustainability standards and regulations.

    • Manage key client relationships and act as an escalation point for sensitive or complex issues, complaints, appeals, mediations, and adverse actions.

    • Maintain a consistent, high-quality client experience and strengthen long-term client relationships.

    • Ensure program compliance with internal quality management systems, accreditation requirements, and applicable standards and protocols.

    • Identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues, non-conformities, and complaints, while developing improvements that enhance program efficiency, consistency, and scalability.

    • Oversee audit operations, workload planning, and resource allocation, and develop complex quality templates and procedures.

    • Maintain current knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks, including AA1000, CDP, CSRD, GRI, ISSB, TCFD, The Climate Registry, and the WRI GHG Protocol.

    • Directly manage staff and contract auditors, setting objectives and priorities, conducting performance reviews, coaching team members, and addressing performance concerns.

    • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing team environment.

    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Data Science, Engineering, or a relevant scientific discipline.

      • At least 5 years of professional experience in a related field, with exposure to greenhouse gas emissions, energy, sustainability, or another applicable sector.

      • Practical experience as a verifier for GHG inventory verification or ESG assurance engagements.

      • Strong understanding of relevant assurance standards, GHG accounting methodologies, sustainability reporting frameworks, and regulatory requirements.

      • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, particularly in data analysis and the evaluation of emissions and sustainability information.

      • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects, competing deadlines, and changing requirements.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professional client-facing presence, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

      • High attention to detail, accuracy, and report quality, including the ability to review and proofread your own work.

      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, and experience using sales CRM systems.

      • Sound judgment, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work independently under pressure.

      • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to conduct audits.

      • A master's degree or higher in a relevant scientific field is preferred.

      • Familiarity with advanced data analysis, visualization, and automation tools such as Python, Power BI, Tableau, Excel Power Query, and SQL is an advantage.

      • Experience with ESG reporting and GHG accounting platforms such as Workiva, Persefoni, and Watershed is preferred.

      • Spanish, Portuguese, or French language proficiency is an additional advantage.

      • Benefits:

        • Estimated annual salary of $80,000–$100,000.

        • Fully remote, home-office-based work within the United States.

        • Flexible working arrangements.

        • Opportunities to work across diverse industries and sustainability assurance programs.

        • Domestic and international travel opportunities as part of audit responsibilities.
