Journey Beyond

Melbourne

Health, Safety and Environment Manager.

FULL TIME

Description

Be a part of sharing special places and shaping lasting memories with Australia’s leading experiential tourism business.

About Journey Beyond

Join Journey Beyond and help support some of Australia's most iconic tourism experiences. Based in Either Adelaide or Darwin, you'll be part of a collaborative team making a real impact across a diverse portfolio of brands and destinations.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager to join our newly formed Rail and Touring Division, supporting our diverse Touring operations across Australia and New Zealand.

As a key member of the Touring Leadership Team, you will play an important role in shaping and driving our safety strategy, strengthening our HSE systems and fostering a proactive safety culture across the business.

Working closely with operational leaders, you will balance strategic initiatives with hands-on support, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our people, guests and partners remain at the forefront of everything we do.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE systems, policies and procedures across Touring operations.
  • Driving a positive safety culture through leadership coaching, engagement and practical HSE initiatives.
  • Providing expert advice on risk management, regulatory compliance and operational safety.
  • Overseeing incident investigations, audits, inspections and corrective actions to minimise risk and drive continuous improvement.
  • Managing HSE assurance processes for contractors and third-party operators.
  • Analysing safety performance, trends and reporting to inform strategic decisions and improvements.
  • Building strong relationships with operational leaders, regulatory bodies and key stakeholders across Australia.

 About you

You are an experienced HSE professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, collaborative approach. You are confident influencing senior leaders, navigating complex operational environments and driving meaningful improvements in safety performance.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A relevant qualification in Work Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Business Management or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years' experience in a comparable HSE role, ideally within tourism, transport or a similarly complex operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and heavy vehicle regulatory requirements, with New Zealand legislative experience highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety management systems, risk management, incident investigations and HSE assurance.
  • The ability to engage, coach and influence stakeholders at all levels to build a strong safety culture.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to balance strategic priorities and operational demands.
  • A proactive, commercially minded and solutions-focused approach.
  • Qualifications in ICAM investigation or lead auditing will be highly regarded.

This role can be based in Adelaide or Melbourne, with travel across Australia as required.
