Marina Bay Sands Bayfront, Singapore

Project Director (Technical), Arena Operations.

LEADERSHIPENGINEERING
WE TAKE YOU ABOVE BEYOND Take your passion to the next level and work alongside other masters of their craft to build a fulfilling and rewarding career at Marina Bay Sands. Job Summary The Project Director will provide senior owner-side leadership for the technical delivery of the new 15,000-seat arena, ensuring operational and technical requirements are embedded from design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. Set the governance framework for requirements, design changes, technical assurance, programme, cost, risk, decisions and acceptance; lead multidisciplinary stakeholder alignment; challenge delivery performance; and provide clear advice and escalation to the Vice President, Arena. The role will lead the transition into pre-opening and establish the foundation for long-term venue projects, technical upgrades and capital works. Job Responsibilities Owner-Side Technical Leadership and Governance Act as the senior owner-side authority for Arena technical delivery, governance and operational integration. Set priorities and direct inputs across Event Planning, Event Operations, Safety & Security, Venue Technology & Production, Venue Services & Logistics, and Business Services & Projects. Hold project teams and advisers accountable for alignment between Arena requirements, project deliverables, consultant responses and approved decisions. Provide executive-level status reporting, briefing papers, dashboards, recommendations and timely escalations to the Vice President, Arena. Requirements and Design-Change Management Establish and maintain the Arena requirements register, design-change register and decision log. Track requirements and proposed changes from initiation through review, approval, incorporation and verification. Identify scope, programme, cost, operational and lifecycle implications arising from design decisions or changes. Ensure decisions, assumptions and departures from requirements are clearly documented and escalated where necessary. Drawing, Submission and Comment Control Establish and maintain the Arena drawing, submission and document registers. Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews of drawings, specifications, schedules, samples, mock-ups and technical submissions. Consolidate MBS Arena feedback, assign owners, monitor responses and drive formal close-out. Maintain revision control, review status and auditable records within approved document-management platforms. Stakeholder, Consultant and Contractor Coordination Coordinate Arena engagement with Development Project Management, architects, engineers, specialist consultants, contractors, integrators, vendors and internal MBS stakeholders. Plan and facilitate technical workshops, design reviews, coordination sessions and issue-resolution meetings. Maintain action registers with clear owners and deadlines, following through until resolution. Translate operational concerns into clear project requirements and communicate project constraints back to Arena stakeholders. Programme, Cost, Risk and Procurement Interface Own the Arena-level view of delivery milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and decision deadlines, and intervene where outcomes are at risk. Provide senior technical input to project cost, commercial and procurement strategies, including the implications of requirements, changes and technical selections. Lead the preparation and review of scopes, technical requirements, procurement inputs, evaluations and recommendation papers where required. Identify material delivery risks early, direct practical mitigation and escalate decisions requiring executive intervention. Commissioning, Defects, Handover and Readiness Lead the Arena owner-side commissioning, acceptance, operational-readiness and handover strategy. Set acceptance criteria and oversee readiness, test plans, inspections, defects, outstanding works, documentation, training and acceptance evidence. Direct operational participation in systems testing, integrated testing, mock events and venue-readiness activities. Confirm that as-built information, operating manuals, warranties, asset data and training records are complete and formally transferred to responsible teams. Lifecycle and Future Venue Projects Support transition of project knowledge, registers and records into the steady-state Arena organisation. Develop frameworks for future capital works, technical upgrades, lifecycle replacement and venue-improvement projects. Apply lessons learned and continuously improve project-control and coordination processes. Job Requirements Education & Certification Degree or diploma in project management, engineering, construction management, architecture, building services, technology systems or a related discipline preferred. PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project-management certification is advantageous. Experience At least 12–15 years of relevant experience, including senior leadership responsibility for technical project delivery, design management or owner-side programme oversight on large, complex developments. Demonstrated accountability for multidisciplinary design reviews, requirements and change governance, programme and cost interfaces, procurement, technical assurance, commissioning, defects, handover and executive reporting is required. Other Prerequisites Sector Background: Experience in integrated resorts, entertainment venues, arenas, theatres, convention centres, hospitality, major public assembly buildings, complex technology environments or comparable large-scale projects is advantageous. Systems Capability: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Teams, SharePoint, document-management and common data-environment platforms, project schedules, action/risk registers and project-reporting tools is expected. Ability to review drawings and technical documentation is required; CAD/BIM viewer familiarity is advantageous. Stakeholder Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead senior internal stakeholders, designers, engineers, consultants, contractors and vendors in a highly matrixed environment. Strong executive communication, governance, meeting leadership, negotiation, commercial judgement, conflict resolution and escalation skills are required, together with the confidence to challenge delivery teams constructively. Operational Requirements: Willingness to attend site, coordinate across project and operational working hours, and support testing, commissioning or critical project activities outside standard office hours where required.
